Andy says he'll look at it next time I see him... (oh that sounds so bad in my head), but he was muttering something about he reckons its probably rotted through the bit that converts the 4 downpipes into 1 pipe out to the back box... And he seems to think its going to be hard to get a replacement for just that one bit....

Anyway, as its not bad enough to fall off just yet I dont suppose it will do any harm being left for a week or two....

Collector (box) Kinda looks that way doesnt it. Down to road crap n crud sitting in the welds! I dont generally have that problem with mine as they've usually got a fair amount of oil in *that* area to keep the rust at bay

Are you going to try and get it brazed up or possibly a second hand unit off evilbay or it's happy new exhaust time

Hmm... well i'll let Andy have a poke at it and see what he thinks... i could do without buying a new exhaust at the mo - there's nowt wrong with the end can (other than a few scrapes from the wall where i park the bike)

Looking at your exhaust Kylie, seems that you have individual downpipes and a link pipe with collector and possibly a separate end can - either that or that's a heat shield plate. So it's possibly 3 pieces tho usually (and more likely) 2.

Not sure if that means you've got standard downpipes which have been updated with a later aftermarket collector / link pipe and end can. I think these would normally be a 4 into 2?

And yes, like the man says. It's either get it brazed up or you're looking at a new system from collector back.

Have you ever had the exhaust off?

I havent personally but its an after market exhaust so its been apart at some point. It *looks* like 3 pieces but it could well not be.

I would try taking it apart, but i like to have back up when i do things like this! I kind of can't cope with the bike being off the road cos it reduces me to pubic transport to get to work

I dont think you'd do any harm taking it apart but unless you intend to fix it there and then, there's not a lot of point. Shout if you get stuck and need exhaust stuff. Think the early GSXR might fit - just so you have more options. 600F systems can be quite expensive! ... or was yours the 750?

Its the 600f... I suppose the main thing is working out if thats a separate part or not.

If its expensive it might just have to have a hole for a bit and hope the MOT people don't notice if its still there at that time

You reckon you can fix said little hole? I might have to come pay you a visit, but depends how long it will take as to when I call on you.... I am just a bit concerned said little hole has friends and that the whole of that part is a potential big hole...

I like little holes, especially IF they have friends that arn`t neighbours

Oop`s wrong forum ...................

Seriously though...........
But without taking a close look, I won`t know IF anything can be done. Theres no point me taking the word of anyone else, as I know my capabilities. You`ll just have to take their advice and take an educated guess if its worth fixing it up. My suspicion is that the collector 4-2-1 section IS part of the back box, the same as with Motad systems

Would have been my inkling too excpt where the can links to the link pipe, the cut of the metal doesnt look particularly straight. Then again, could just be my eyes

Looking at the photo's i would think the back pipe is slipped over the collecter pipe.Just past the weld on the left. I would think looking at it that it's a bastardised set up.

IF I get the job which I have about as much chance of as winning the lottery I suspect!

Although.... i have an interview monday for a research job which would be in addition to my day job, so if that goes well maybe a couple of months and i can afford a new exhaust

If you are considering buying a new exhaust, or even a second hand one, or part of one you are going to have to take the exhaust off..So as said at the beginning of this post soak the bolts in releasing oil for as long as it takes to loosen the bolts, take it off and find the hole or lay some plastic rubbish bags on the ground beside your bike, put some sofa cushions in more bags, put more bags on top and gently ease the bike on its side on top of them so that You can see the hole, use a wire brush to clean up around it so that it cleans off the rust and then you have three options.

1/ There is not a hole, tighten the bolt.

2/ There is a hole in a straight bit of pipe Use Gum Gum silencer bandage 1.99

3/ there is a crack at a weld or joint Use Gum Gum silencer paste 1.99

I wouldnt take that as gospel. Can find out what exactly will fit if you do need to replace but you dont need downpipes anyway so hopefully (worst case scenario) it's collector/link that you'll need.
