Default scary strip down moments

Picked up this shed of a gsx and today was the day I had to pull the exhausts off they were completely stuffed and rotten been outside for years.
So stud removal time came

And they all came out with a bit of coaxing and time, made my day it did

Anyone thats ever done this will understand the sweaty brow whiler doing it.

Another bit of useless inforamtion I thought I would share with the world

I'll get my coat

WD 40 and lots of it.
Soak it over days before touching a nut or bolt.

Surely penetrating oil would be better?

Plus Gas is the mother of all releasing oils.

Miles better than WD40 and fast acting too.

Gas if you have got it wd if you aint and never try to undo it in one big go always nudge backwards and forwards to try and release the bolts. Also helps to tap em with a mallet gives the thread a jolt so to speak.

My lower shock linkage bolt is seized solid so copious amounts of wd and a mallet tomorrow see if it will pop.

I always find takin a break helps doing too much at once is bad for your health and bike. Things break in a temper

Well, looks like I may have a fairly scary job coming up,I think the threads for one of the exhaust cam bearing caps have stripped..........
Was going into town tonight, got mebbe a mile when this horrendous rattling came from the cylinder head.No smoke so at least I haven't holed a piston.

Plus gas is getting difficult to find, diesel works quite well though if you leave it long enough.

Another way is to heat it quite alot. This is particularly effective when the bolt is of a different material to whatever it's in because the two materials will have a different coefficient of linear expansion thus causing them to expand by different ammounts. This will then have the effect of "cracking" loose the offending bolt and making it easier to remove.

WD40,well i use it,like it and it seems to work as any oil will given time permante and lube fixings.
Each to there own.
Or go the Jamie Oliver route with olive oil.
Just don't dress your salads with it.
Or get really into the stuff and go here click

Cheers folks.
Got a warehouse supply of Plus Gas, WD40, and several others. Anyone know where I can get a few tins of elbow grease cos I'm a bit short of that.

Well heat and wd40 did nothing had to ground the bearing out in the end on the lower shock linkage sorted though. It didnt go without a fight thougth.
Start cleanin rust off for quick painting. you know it will end up matt black.

Doesnt look too bad in the pic but blimey..
