Default More Than Pet Insurance...............

I had my ol' dog Scrumpy insured with Pet Healthcare Services for the last 5 years of his life. never had a problem with them, and when poor ol' Scrump got ill and I lost him, the insurance company were great. real compassionate and respectful.
Pet HC Services was bought out by 'More Than' who now covers Razza and Sensimelia, our dogs.
Razza has developed something called 'trace mange' which apparently genetic and all the puppies in the litter have had a dose of it at sometime.
razza has had to have skin scrapes, blood tests, a course of anti-biotics and this stinky shampoo.
His condition is clearing up nicely now, but the bastard insurance company are trying to pull a fast one on me and my vets.
The vets have prescribed Razza and Sensi with a medication called 'advocate' which works much the same as Spot-on, but is primarily for the condition of Demodex which is what Razza has.
Because this medication is also for the cure of fleas (which neither of the dogs have) the insurance company are refusing to pay coz they say it is my responsibilty to deal with the fleas!
'They aint got fleas' I told them today.
'Well then why has your vet prescribed a flea treatment then?' they asked.
'Because it treats fleas and the ailment he has' I said.
I was trying to be nice, but after only paying 208 of a 400 vet bill, I lost my patience!
'More than Insurance?' I said 'Yeah, so called coz we, the customers, pay 'more of the bill than you fukka's do!'
I have threatened to take this further, and when they do pay up what they should, I shall be cancelling the policy and taking my custom elsewhere!

As for Sensi, well she was nibbling her legs bald due to picking up a mild case of the mite from Razza. Her bill stands at 178 and the tossers have paid only 10 of her bill....

'More Than Insurance'? These wankers are sure gonna get 'more then they bargained for' from me!

That sucks, Ju. Sorry to hear Sensi has caught the itches! And puts me off bothering with insurance at a point where I'd almost become convinced.

Ju when this has cleared up put them both on oil of evening primrose tabs - you wil never have a prob again with skin I promise. In the meantime aloe vera shampoo with tea tree is the best.

Most shampoos prescribed by vets are a complete expensive waste of money.

Believe me I have gone through all of this with my westies and since using the above, havent had any probs.

Demodex Mange left to get infected
Before Advocate

After Advocate

This was April 2006 and she's still as pretty. As cherryb says evening primrose helps greatly.
Good luck with their treatment.

Give Razza a wee cuddle & have a look at this

I took us 6 mnths to get her back to health. She couldn't open her eyes. She smelled of rotting flesh. The guy we rescued her from said there was f**k all wrong with her. Took me and Mr BB a great deal of strength to walk away and not thump the barsteward. She now stays in Surrey with a wonderful family.

PS pet insurance sucks juke hope you get it sorted though

Get the bosses phone number from public info/records places - Who owns? Who runs? head office etc...

Write to him/her directly, keep copies... you should get a standard reply but also a direct number... Phone up and act like a buniness person and phone him/her directly - ask by name being vague about subject...

Once in he/she can't put the phone down, be nice tell him/her straight the situation, and he/she will deal with the problem personally and ...quickly...

They won't insure akitas. Sadie Bear is insured with Tesco. Touch wood, I've never had to call on them yet.

By the way, this Demodex mange, is a condition Staffies are know to suffer from? I know a wee Staffie who might be in the early stages of this.

I'll tell the owner about the Evening Primrose oil, CherryB. Thanks for the hint.

Juke have you tried getting your vet involved? Maybe if he tells the insurance company why he has prescribed it?

I've got my cats insured with direct line and they managed to alter my cats ages one year - they had their dates of birth right, but said that they were both a year older than they were and consequently charged me more! If I could change I would, but because Dax is 9 and Smudge has a heart murmer and is 8 I doubt anyone would take them on now as a new customer.

That's interesting cos my dog (who is a Staffie cross) has a very similar problem to Tracie's pic on his back, and my vet told me it was caused by fleas and he has a flea allergy.........

It usually clears up with an application of Frontline, then comes back a few months later as the cats bring more fleas in.

May have to have a word with my vet I think!

Yambabe, I am led to believe by my vet that Demodex mange is actually a mite that lives deep in the hair folicules of the skin.
Staffs seem more prone to this condition than other breeds, but Ian and Trace will know more about it. I was also told it is a genetic thing too. H advised me not to breed Razza, as he may well pass it down to the pups.
They have siad he will probably need this Advocate stuff permanently, or a similar treatment. Frontline is urely for fleas, but razza has no fleas, vet told me that the first time we took him to the surgery.
The insurance company are just pulling a fast one, but they will lose!

Razza is def improving, and his chest hair is growing back nicely. The worst thing about this Demodex mange is the smell. And the skin gets real warm. He was also scratching bad, but seems to have stopped that now.

Will def try the primrose trick tho........a bloody sight cheaper than Advocate thats for sure.........
