Default 1200 evo sportster

just servicing a 1200 sporty prior to mot,ing it. fitting a solid handlebar mount kit as 10" of backward and forward movement from the 16" bars is a defo mot failure. but upon draining the primary oil my nostrils detected the smell of cat piss. the owner had filled it with ep90 gear oil. i used drag specialties primary oil.

has anyone ever heard of putting ep90 in a hd primary??

Nope.
Filled mine up with power steering fluid before cos it was the same colour red and was out and about with no HD shops about.
Worked a treat, left it in.

My father put a similar if not the same oil in his sportster after advice from a non harley riding mate.

When it started missing gear changes he took it to the harley dealer in Canterbury in kent (forgot name) (the foundry??)and they sold him the proper oil .... all was well after that.

He never complained of a cat piss smell though .... mind you he cant smell a thing over his cigar/whiskey breath lol

well it could fook ya gearbox overtime for one......

decent 20-50 is fine for the motor, but it is emperative especially in older 4 speed 1200's to use the correct gearbox/primary oil ....ep 90 or specific big twin primary or gearbox oil just dont cut it wynne
