Read the local press review of the Harley Nightster.

They liked it, but had quality issues.

But reading the figures I just kept laughing....

1200cc engine - My dragstar 650cc
50bhp - dragstar 43/44bhp
100mph topspeed - Dragstar 100mph topspeed
£6,695 - Dragstar £5500

How can a 1200cc engine be so sh*t?

nightster = sportster in dark colours = been around for 51 years

dragstar = sportster copy = been around for a lot less

Fifteen years later;

Drag Queen:- In a pile of unwanted bits in a breakers someplace, with 25,000 miles on it. Dead.
Shítster:- Still somebody's pride and joy. Been round Europe 6 times, just needs an oil change for the next trip over. Done 100,000 miles. Starts first time every time.

as with everything thats standard.....i needs tinkering with, it has to be tinkered with.....whats the point in having it if you cant tinker with it...be a bit boring if they all stayed the same

Now I'm in desperate need of a bit of tinkering meself. Bloody bikes get more tinkering than I ever get or am ever likely to get unless I find myself a very fit toy boy with lots of tinkering experience.

People buy a Harley because of the longevity, resale value, availability of parts to change it to anything you want it to be..not meant to be a sports bike... but can be made into one if you want...

If folk don't mind riding around on an poor imitation pretend Harley .. no problem ..buy a Dragstar...

You can't reduce the performance of a bike to a couple of figures. The difference in performance between the two is considerable. The little Sporty pulls like a train, the Dragstar doesn't. When some (unt got in my garage and took me ignition barrel out before getting disturbed, a mate lent me his Dragstar for the week to get to work on. Now as incredibly grateful as I was, and as pleasant a ride as it was (and it was), the motor's got nowt, it's absolutely gutless. Regardless of who makes it or what the figures are, the H*rley is a better bike by a mile.

I think 78.9lbs/ft vs 37 lbs/ft are the more relevant figures myself?

I've ridden plenty of 1200 Sportys including the Nightster and a fair few Drag Queens too and I can promise you its the Yamaha which is over priced.

i wouldn´t say overpriced, but deffo underpowered (the new 650 with cat now makes LESS than 30bhp )

i would prefer to ride the 1200 sporty over the xv650 for fun quality, although due to my stature on both i look like an orang utan shagging a pushbike.

errrr excuse me Sir, but you did say Harleys are overpriced. And I would argue the point. Jap cruisers are plastic. drop it and you do loads of damage Harleys are solid as a rock, drop it and ok you might get a few scratches, but your bike wont be written off. Even with my limited knowklege of the mechanics and technical specifications etc., of bikes, I do know quality when I see and I cannot find a bike to match the Harley for quality, with the possible exception of the stock seats which are pretty crap.

I've ridden loads of Jap cruisers and they just dont excite me like a Harley. There's no oomph and they sound like a wet fart. Thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
