Default Penrith road rage man jailed
A CAR driver who deliberately drove at a motorcyclist in a road rage incident in Carlisle has been sent to prison for three and a half years. (THURS)

Ian Bretherton, 44, had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause student Terence Chandler grievous bodily harm with intent to do so.

The city’s Crown Court today (THURS) heard that Mr Chandler was riding his £6,000 bike in Warwick Road when he was involved in a minor collision with Bretherton’s Ford Mondeo.

He remonstrated with Bretherton – swearing at him and banging on the car window – before walking away.

But then Bretherton revved his engine and deliberately drove his car at him . . . twice.

Mr Chandler was hit but escaped worse injury by hurling himself over the wall of the garden of the nearby Botcherby Community Centre.

Mr Chandler suffered relatively minor injuries but is still traumatised nearly six months later.

Bretherton, who lives in a flat in Abbotsford House, Wordsworth Street, Penrith, was banned from driving for four years.
