Time to switch your photo storage.

You will probably have noticed that every photo-bucket image no longer works....unless you pay them, so time to switch if you want you images to show.......real PITA having to to go back and change them all, either than or pay, but i am dammed if i will be held to ransom, but a lot of old images are never going to be seen again....money grabbing bastards!

They all seem to do it eventually, once they've got you by the balls, they start to squeeze.

Keep everything important locally is my advice and only use the online photo storage sites as a tool to post stuff.

From my photobucket account... No charge.

tetlee 07-07-2017 02:28 PM

I was asking a computer nerd about this, as my personal computer knowledge is that of a chocolate mouse, and a thick one at that..He said he thought there is a cut-off by Photobucket when it comes to charging, at least in the UK.

A depends how much storage space you have used and B how frequently you use Photobucket.
I don't have a PB account, so they won't get any dosh from me....:D :D

Tricky-Dicky 07-07-2017 09:57 PM

Anyone with a free account has now got to pay up if they want to link their stored pics to a forum, i have had my account for years, and its only 85% full, yet all my pics are no longer visible, same goes for everyone else on a number of forums i frequent, and the one a mod.

Friar Tuck 08-07-2017 05:48 AM

Never used photobucket.....just used computer, rewritable dvds and memory sticks.

miniondave 08-07-2017 09:59 AM

I used to have a memory stick.......

....forgot where I put it. :D

To be fair, can you really expect it to be a completely free service forever? If you don't want to lose something back it up, then back it up again.

strima 11-07-2017 04:23 PM

Just had the email, $399 a year, they can fuck right off...

Sir Ewok 12-07-2017 11:49 AM

Yep, got the e-mail but you can download your own photos to your computer, so not lost. If you start a free service, it should remain free, if you want to charge you should do that from the start or have a free service with certain aspects disabled. It is disingenuous to give away a service for years, which people come to depend on and then drop charges on them without warning. It's like a drug dealer giving samples of cocaine to get punters hooked and have a regular clientele........ As far as I'm concerned Photobucket is finished and it will probably go bust because there are still free services out there.....

tetlee 12-07-2017 12:23 PM

A really annoying aspect of this quite sudden change in Photo Bucket policy is the disruption it has caused to some educational postings in various forums.

I'm wittering on about things like a long instructional post, with photographs, relating to wood carving that I found useful....all gone, just the text left and the original poster either doesn't know about the new PB policy, hasn't got the time to re-sort a new series of photos or has pulled the plug on paying PB.

Three months warning would have been nice and maybe PB wouldn't be facing the exodus of users that it now appears to be experiencing.

Tricky-Dicky 12-07-2017 01:17 PM

Photo buckets new policy of not allowing link unless paid for has just about foooked up most informative how to's and such like on every forum its been used
on, so the result is that unless everyone who has ever posted a picture link goes back over their old content and re-links their contend to somewhere dependable, its totally lost, and considering that i alone have probably in the region of over 500 linked helpful picks posted on several forums over the last ten years.....

Its a totally nasty underhand bit of blackmail on photo buckets part, and i too hope they go under as a result.

tetlee 12-07-2017 02:22 PM

I've only got a total of about 120 photos on a site called Imgur. It's easy to use for a dumbkoff like me but I think I'll do what Friar Tuck does and get one of the memory stick gizmos.

I think there must be a warning there for relying on the Internet too much for anything at all. It's only photos I know, but they must have screwed up an awful lot of people world wide.

Better print off me Guzzi manual...quick. :D

Friar Tuck 13-07-2017 04:31 AM

I can see a lot of peeps going to flickr, unless that's charging as well?

Sir Ewok 13-07-2017 05:41 PM

How do you put pictures on this site from a memory stick? you can't copy and paste or drag and drop.......

strima 13-07-2017 06:00 PM

I've just deleted my account, screw 'em...

To download the bloody Koala I clicked manage Attachments and then attached using the search files. (It is a sample picture file on the computer before you ask)
If it won't search files from your memory stick then I guess you have to download them to your computer first.

Tricky-Dicky 13-07-2017 09:20 PM

Most BBs have the feature to attach a picture from a folder on your computer, however some limit the size of the picture file which can be a pain.

tetlee 13-07-2017 09:38 PM

" It is a sample picture file on the computer before you ask"

Where is 'Manage attachments' is it on the file folder or what? Good at computers but not sure about this.....

P.S. Dowloaded all my photobucket pics and deleted all of them off of photobucket so they can't use them for anything, such as selling prints.

miniondave 14-07-2017 12:38 PM

When you click "post a reply" or "new topic", under the submit reply/preview post tabs there is a section "Additional Options". Manage Attachments is in there.

tetlee 15-07-2017 07:52 AM

:D Think I might chuck my pensioners 'phone with the big buttons away and get a new fangled one with a camera, now that I can make the photos appear.
