vw style trike

howdo all,
as my back seems to be getting worse, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the vw style of trike. ie what there like to ride, running costs and what to look for when buying one.
oh and that's the type I'm looking at so please don't mention that you have a bike with a bolt on rear axle :-)

cheers

Wouldn't dream of it....what about an axle with a bolt-on bike?

Used to have a VW trike which I liked very much, The only trouble I had was the gear lever was mounted on the side and trying to push it in and then select reverse gear was a nightmare. The main problem was the stick was too long and had two bends in it it which meant the stick flexed too much to get enough 'push' on it. Riding was brilliant, but not fast, about 80ish with a full load of three people plus tents etc. Al;tho8ugh my trike was professionally built, it was getting old and developed some serious electrical problems, which along with the collapse of the banking system in 2008 caused me to sell it. I enjoyed riding it and it always put a smile on other rider/drivers faces.

Fuel economy was reasonable and because most of the weight was over the rear axle, it handled well. I wish I still had it.
