I need some advice a 1980 Suzuki gsx 750 (overbore to 816cc) just came up for sale for 430.

Question 1
Will the motor fit this frame www.hard-up-choppers.com/page008.html or is there a better frame available

She will need a mot but with the custom frame will it need a sva

Any advice on tools, equipment and legal stuff

Sorry for all the noob questions I have never done anything like this just a few bits and pieces on my 125:D

The motor will fit and the frame is a well made frame and a good price.
The mot isnt a problem. There are ways around the SVA etc.
Tell your missus you need lots of tools and equipment.
Dont worry about the legal stuff. (Just dont get caught)
And finally. If your on here asking for advice then yes, you are insane.

gsx(air cooled) engine has different mounts to gsxr (oil cooled)engine. so, whilst it may possibly fit in the frame, dont expect the mounts to line up. i know this cos im fitting a gsxr engine into a katana (gsx) frame and every single engine mount is different.

Also, you could buy a decent GSXR750 motor for that money - or even an 11 if you're in the right place at the right time.

The hardtail frame your on about comes without engine mounts fitted. You fit them yourself so as I said. No problem with the frame although Minxy makes a very good point.

it is ment to be a cheap:rofl: project while i get my self a full licensce (only got a cbt at the moment :thumbd:) and no car licence so it is a bit difficult to get something to chop up and the cheapest gsxr i can find is 1000 :eek2: and it is going to need a restrictor ??? and do not forget about the the insurance i am 19. unless some one can think for a better way???

If the gsx is on the road at 430 then its a good deal as you can use everything on it and put it straight into the frame your thinking of.
Have a word with hardup choppers, they are pretty helpful and will weld on the mouting brackets for you.
As for insurance.....Use your dads licence. :thumbsu:

have you thought about mailing em to see if they can do mounts for a gsx lump?
if they get a sale out of it might be worth their while.

if mounts are bolt on then on oldskoolsuzuki there is a page which will show how to make ewngine mounts to mount a gsx lump in gsxr frame.

also minx is right but in a hardtail chop i personally would prefer a gsx 1100 lump rather than a high revving gsxr lump.

GSX1100 lump, carbs, rear wheel, front forks, choice of tanks.
V5 included, so no SVA.
700.

Hi there, as to the gsx750 motor if it's the aircooled eg et 1980's motor NO it will not fit the frame you're looking at as the gsxr motors are smaller than the gsx750/1100 aircooled motor from left to right and from back to front.
I know this as I've put a lot of gsxr motors in gs/gsx frames and they fit with lots of room but you cannot put the gsx in the gsxr frames.
As to what kit you will need, well you will need to make spacers and brackets, so unless you have a lot of good mates who can help out making one off parts for you it could be costly.
Why don't you chat to the shop who makes the frame and see if they're doing one for the right motor. If you're buying a tuned motor have a good look at it as you may be getting a lot of work if they have not been done well;)
