Time for a promotional vehicle

Over the last year or so i have been toying with the idea of investing in a four wheeled promotional vehicle for the business. Something i can play with and personalize so it stands out with the business name splashed over it.I use the car to collect parts, materials etc so i am always out and about in it.

I really fancied a pick up/crew cab sort of thing but the running costs were too high, also i still need it to be practical for family use, so i thought of painting our Vectra estate with flames and lettering... but that really did not appeal. Then a few months ago i saw a PT Cruiser, looks like a modern hotrod, customises well and look great with a nice paint job.

http://i.ebayimg.com/04/!BOvWelg!2k~...Ij,DUw~~_3.JPG

So, i have sold my Thunderace and borrowed a little more cash and am hopeing to pick up a Cruiser soon. It is a bit of a sacrifice but in the long run i think it will pay off.

The vectra will be sold to fund a new 2 wheeled project so all is not lost. Any one want an SRI vectra.. consider swaps... LOL !

In standard form they are cool but a tad plain jane, i will be making some improvements over time, but i will be waiting for bargains etc as i dont want to spend a fortune on it... got a new bike to find and personalise too once i sell the vectra.. :thumbu:

there are companies in the states that sell grp panels you can fit on to make them into a van, includes arches the lot.

*Ace* 11-05-2009 07:55 AM

Yeah i have seen, i woould love to panel it but still need the family thing, in time though... :D

Looked at some of the front and rear kits for them... OMG:eek:... i could buy another cruiser for that money.

T'were more than a few months ago our kid...

You had one on your website I seem to recall. :D

RIDLER 11-05-2009 09:48 PM

It will work a treat :thumbu: , I happened to see one of those PTs for sale the other day and didnt realise quite how reasonable they were priced .
We have 2 VW T4 transporter vans sign written for our crash repair business and since having them a year now have had a great responce and done alot of custom jobs and work on T4s .
People dont know you exist unless its put in front of their eyes . Looking forward to seeing what you do with it Ace .:thumbsu:

Sorry to put a dampner on your project, but its Chrysler and they, like all their american cousins, have all the build quality of an early Lada. I work on Jeeps and Jap 4x4s and the jeeps leave so much to be desired. There is a reason they are so "reasonably priced", it is market forces. Good luck but be forewarned.

Scumbag 12-05-2009 10:24 AM

That's probably why they've just gone bust, then.

Beano 12-05-2009 10:35 AM

They look great fun and can be really well personalised but as J.Top says....they are flimsy...
Broke three Cryslers in the states....
Went down pot hole = wing fell off !
Hit shovel on free way = it twated up and pushed front panal behind front wheel !
Pulled visor down = came off with half the roof panal !
But as long as you know and are up for a chuckle....and as long as its safe for the family....:D
The new Dodge Charger is stronger......gave it back in one piece...........o no...I remember the speedo broke...um..well when you went over 90 it flipped back down to 20 mph.....I made them give me a 50 refund.....

LOL... i had a feeling you would come in with that, and yes i did have your old one on my site for a while after i repaired the rear wing. However, it was seeing one in Riders car park all blinged up that bought the idea to me this time... !

Yup, they are shite build quality in general and have a few common niggles (Bushes, Electrics, Crap turning circle, pipe on turbo etc etc), but like many quirky odd ball vehicles you have to sacrifice some thing to stand out.

I am however only interested in the 2.2 TD as it has the Merc engine and is more reliable and fuel efficient than the petrol.

Yup that too, but i think Fiat are stepping in, great... more crap build quality.. but hey.. there are some pretty funky looking fiats too.

robbum 12-05-2009 07:13 PM

:DHave you thought about the Chrysler Voyager or the Kia Sedona? Both nice big 7 seaters, tinted windows and loads of panel space for painting up.

Well after the Cornwall fiasco i was feeling pretty pissed off by the end of last week, as well as suffering with flu and not sleeping well for the last 8 days by thursday i had had enough so i sloped off home early, made a coffee and fired up the PC.

Scoured the net for a while and then like a blessing from above, i found what i was looking for and more. A dealer was selling a 52 plate LTD for 2500 buy it now, Not only that but it has a full body kit, 18" alloys, lowered, boot spoiler and a heap of dealer receipts from the previous years, 10 disc multi changer and in great condition.

Only one drawback, it was in Hartlypool 40 miles from Newcastle and 270 miles from me... BUGGER !! Well after much deliberation i had arranged for an overnight stay in Newcastle with a mate, a lift to Hartlypool with his missus in the morning and flights were booked for last night.

Flew up to Newcastle Friday night, got to dealers by 9.15 this morning, done deal by 10am... 8) home by 2.45pm.

I love it, done 250 miles in one shot with out stopping and felt fine after, went shopping after a cuppa...

Only got the dealer pics at the moment.. it is minging now as well will do some of my own pics soon but here are the dealer shots..

That looks a bit wrong lowered, at least in those pictures, prefer the normal ride height. Do agree, looks wise they are a good looking cars, like steamlined hotrods, a shame that the eco car desighners cann't bulid good looking cars, and as for 'new' mini, beetle and fiat 500, they totally miss out on what the originals were. could be quite a thing onece done, good luck:thumbu:

That Sherpa Based? Great trucks sherpas, noisy slow and clunky and have the turning circle of the Titanic, but they are made out of bits of old battleships and you can drive them through things...

What about a Trekka from New Zealand, Made from a Skoda chassis with a Jeep type top bolted on. They did actually make a Friday car.

The factory worked five days a week monday to friday, the pain side of the production line consisted of a degreaser bath where the car body was dipped from an overhead rail into a tricloethelene solution then it continued out of the bath into the open air to get rid of the fumes along with ten others, the line entered the spray shed where it was sprayed, dried and sprayed again.

On friday they lifted the first car body out of the bath and switched off the line. By monday the eleven exposed cars were bright red with rust, they switched on the line and just sprayed over the rust.
