That's the thing these days, not satified with having just a Graphic Designer/Artworker...you must be multi skilled (to save getting two people in to do the job!!!)

I still think the designer and the developer should be separate jobs :p

Bassman 25-04-2008 12:04 PM

I'm sure they could be.. if they were paid half as much..

ask Nik... :p

hmm i've built countless websites for peeps from the early days back in 97, so things have changed a'lot, i mostly build websites in cms now days as they can hold forums within the main strucure, done a couple of web carts versions and i use 3dsmax a'lot due to my on'line racing career, which incidentally was based on real time 6-12-24 hr car racing "simulator racing" over a ten year period.
a few pics of 3d render's on actual race circuits and environment i've made :)

I agree with Clanger... a designer should provide look and feel and the coder, networks team and DBA's should do the rest.

And Valley Boy... nice 3D work, and very impressive, but however based on the images you used to display it you are not a Graphic Designer. Trust me, that is a skilled job and needs at least two years of study to carry it off and truly understand the rules of graphic communication and issue specific to translating print layout to the screen and vice versa.

BTW I am not a GD , used to teach 'em how not to go over the top on designing for websites and spent a lot of time analysing good print GD and how to use it in screen GUI's ( and if you don't understand that last bit don't apply for the job ad :) )

This however is the real sign of a recession when the IT tasks start getting doubled up.

AND before anyone chips in with what do you know... I most probably worked on or project managed parts of and in some cases the whole shebang, of a lot of the sites you will have accessed over the years to buy stuff or get info... and had the nervous breakdown to prove it :( ... so I won't be applying :thumbu:

devon-tony 27-11-2008 12:44 PM

does this job involve more than going to rallies, testing beer, leering at women, oooo'ing and aaaaa'ing at nice bikes??

guess I buggered then, my tinterweb skills are limited to typing and buying things on ebay
