went to see th following trike to see if it was a suitable upgrade (Piccy below)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9883&item=2485883496&rd=1
well it all looked promising in the photo's and description
BUT
after having seen it
there are quite a few things that would need sorting (and not easy stuff either)
the caliper on the front would lift rather than dive the front end, cooling system although it looks good wouldnt probably work, and a lot of other expensive to rectify niggles,
the engineering of the frame and yokes forks is fantastic but the overall design is not ideal (although i did manage to get my leg over)

and he was trying to pass it off as a honda trike
it started out as a honda trike, which had an engine change, then a frame and everything else, there is no way it would pass an msva without spending serious money.

so no V8 trike for me then

But on the other hand i might be getting another one built for me..

it could be a real nice trike with the work he and yourself state needs doing.

lol you not the one he refers to at the bottom of the page are you?

i guess as it is a 2 speed,it has been mated up to a gm powerglide transmission.
an excellent choice for a lightweight machine.
but 1.5 secs from neutral to low and 2.5 secs from low to high points to transmission pump probs at least

avoid this one too... it needs new front end, rear brakes and the carbs are leaking like you would not believe

yes we are the guys he refers to

you see the main problem with it is that he has created a lot of it himself and it is over enginered, the gearbox is a manual box with a weird rotational cog system that moves it between 2nd and 4th
you cannot select reverse gear at all

there are some really nicely enginered bits on it, but thats it, to much time and money to make it a workable machine, he was/is building it as a show bike becouse he even made a special towing thing that fits to the front wheel so in his words 'you can tow it to the shows' what is wrong with riding it..pussy

but he was seriously trying to pass it off as a honda (which is fine if you build the bike and keep it yourself, but not to try and pass it on to someone else)

and the expert trike builder he refers to has built many many trikes (good ones too) and didnt appreciate him pointing out some quite serious design flaws.

From my understanding it is normal for a leading link type of set up to rise up during braking and not down as you suggest. It has been like this on sidecar outfits for years.

How can you change this? Will just moving the caliper eliminate this? I am genuinely interested to know, thanks.

there was to much play in the forks and there was serious movement, it would all need to be stiffened up a lot

there was no where else to place the caliper

'i wish the guy well with the trike and if someone has the expertise and money to finish it it could be a nice trike, the guy made all the shiny bits himself inc yokes forks and the body moulding, but personally think he is a better maker of bits than a designer of trikes, it was more a case of form over function, making it unrideable, or very hard work to ride it, which is a shame cuz it does look good'

I have to say, having a closer look at the picture, all the angles of the leading links just don't look right do they, don't matter where the caliper is on this one it's gonna rise right up even under the lightest of braking.
