Hi all can anyone help me with a problem i had with my triumph 5ta chop this morning, basically i was riding along at about 55-60 then all of a sudden it lost power,so i pulled over, the bike was still running, the throttle was responding so i set of again a few minutes later, the same thing happened, this time when i stopped so did the engine,i checked the fuel & that seemed to be getting through so i kicked it over,it fired into life,so i rode home, keeping the speed under 50,i had no problems,i have just run the bike in,i wandered whether i was giving it to much revs to soon, its just done 500 miles.thanx Dwayne

Sounds like fuel starvation.

Either vapouristation coz the fuel line is too near the hot engine.

Or the float bowl is emptying quicker than it can be refilled at a larger throttle opening.

Check the fuel filter - normally on the petcock in the tank, make sure it's not partially blocked. Better off removing that and putting in an in-line filter.

Check the float height, and check that the fuel line is not too small in cross section.

i would agree and say that as it is so intermittent that it is vapourising

definatly your first port of call

Got a heat insulator between the carb and the head?

Is this one of those poxy distributor ones?

same problem with my old triumph, heat insulator, and also make sure the carb isnt overly polished or chromed!!, the hot weather plays havoc with them
