Hi guys.
Just scrounged 2 light fittings with tubes made by crompton.
Each one is 96" long and takes a pair of 100w tubes.
Wires coming out of side are on a connector block. One is L-live and other is n-neg .Wired it up and nothing!
Should there be an earth wire?
How do you test flourescent tubes also the starter motors(look like car coils)?
Any help or advice would be great!

yes there should be an earth connection if there isnt a terminal(normally a 3 way choclate block live-neut with the earth in the middle one). there should also be a stater in it a small can sticking out the side about 1/2 inch in dia these can dies and cost about a pound hth

Think these are before the little stator thing on side.Had a look round 'em and there isn't a hole for them even.
There is a block that the wires attach to when traced back and that has an earth sign on it.

If they look like oversize car coils then yes! :D
Only other thing apart from two of those are two black boxes that have crompton on them

the black things are the ballasts the ignition coil looking things are capacitors
you should have an earth if there isnt a connection bolt one to the metal work but it should still work
check you have power going into the ballasts
and the right wattage of lamps it should say the wattage on the ballasts
