well filling in the profile form and introducing yourself etc would be a good start to getting serious replies on here.
As to asking the HA etc .... that would depend on what part of the country you lived in ... :D
My honest thoughts on the subject is this...
If you have to come on a public forum and ask such questions then you probably arent ready .... ;)
What are the "rules" for setting up a side patch motorcycle club. Can anyone set one up or do you have to have local HA approval?
Cant seem to get an answer anywhere else so hoping I can from this forum.
Cheers
Why ask the HA, they don't rule clubs and are not everywhere. What if some of the other back patch clubs didn't like it ?
well start of as a MCC or a RTC
Rally Touring Club.
I know Doctors ain't that keen on bikes but I can't really see the Local Health Authority objecting

I think sum it up.

An MCC is (usually) a sidepatch club.
I'm not sure if there are "rules" per se about setting up a club, but there are certainly courtesies that should be observed.
You are unlikely to get a full answer on here, or any other internet forum. Best bet is to find out who your local MC or MCC is and seek advice from them.
I would say Mcc But have to agree with PAT. We went side patch a couple of years back and just out of courtesy let the local Mc's know who we were ... at the time there was quite a few of us and we were growing at a vast rate of knots.
Back to Mcc now , started attracting people who weren't family orientated.

Sorry new to this site.
Based in Newcastle, a Harley rider, on an internet forum with about 70 odd members (some very odd!) many of whom want to convert into a club but do not want to find themselves at odds with anyone else. In the north east there seems to be some confusion about what can or cannot be done hence the post.
not in any way will you be able to start a side patch club
are you quite mad,,,,lol
obviously dont know the boys up here
i would suggest you go to 'just harleys' and ask in there about HOG membership, you may find the info you need from there...HTH
i would suggest you take pats advice
and if you really want to go down that road set up an RC(Rally Club) first (you can always move on later)

As Pat says,
If you don't know the answers, then you are not ready to take the step - certainly not where MC is concerned.
Is it a club you want, or a social group, there is a difference.
I'm surprised no one has asked what this forum with 70 "odd" members is ?

Hello!!!
MAGs NE Regional Rep. here.
I'm surprised no one has asked what this forum with 70 "odd" members is ?
Give us a link to the forum, I'm interested, always on the look out for local stuff.
I'm not going to go into details about the politics of 'clubs' on a public forum, but if you are interested in setting up a group of some sort I'm always willing to give any help I can, (especially if it ends up with a MAG affiliation :D ).
Feel free to PM me, or phone on 0870 774 3548. Alternatively I will be down at Durham MAGs meeting in the Elme Tree, Crossgate, Durham from about 8 pm tonight if you fancy a pint.
Direct e-mail is:

Always glad to hear from local bikers.

Do ya think they have just bought a bike and thought oo i want a club now or is it some1 else fishing?
Pat or mod, go through the forum, i know its got a lot of posts, and find similar question posts and see if ever they return after getting no advice bout the post.

Thrust asks what the rules are and he later mentions that he wants to set up this club for members of a forum who are all odd.
Leaving aside the obvious issues of rules, politics, respect and so on, I would just make the point that setting up any sort of club and associating yourself through it to a bunch of people you dont really know that well, could get you in plenty of trouble. Whatever type of badge you wear and wherever you wear it becomes irrelevant if one of the other members of your club, wearing that badge, upsets the wrong people.
The advice given along the lines of if you dont know you are not ready may not seem helpful but is probably very good advice. Learn to walk before you try to run is always sensible.
I too am interested in what this forum is because it seems odd to me that between 70 bikers who want to start a club, not one of them has any previous experience or knowledge of the basics.

Thrust,
I quoted myself here because thats not a smart assed answer, its an attempt to keep you on the straight and narrow and out of bother.
I have looked at your forum, didnt go in, just looked at it from the outside. With a name like that, Im assuming its a Harley riders club in which case joining HOG, and maybe even forming a new chapter is maybe your best bet.
Anything else you want to do, Id make sure you touch base with other local clubs in a polite and friendly manner first. They wont bite if you dont go in there with an attitude.
I´m not surprised people dont come back if all they get is smart arse comments (Robin excepted) for what was an honest question.
The forum in question can be accessed through www.hogonthetyne.co.uk and a few minutes ago had 17,985 posts to date.
Hardly the work of a new biker wanting to start up a club.
:(
The original question although fair can be interpreted many ways. This is a very easy going forum ALL of the people I have met on here over the last coupla months are A1
Most new members introduce themselves and then ask questions. The responses aren't a snub, they are merely a reaction to your entrance....
You could have asked:
"who's the hardest back patch and how do I join."
Although a straight forward question, not much of an introduction .
this is isn't a lecture .
"i'm slob good to meet you " :D

Dont think anyone was being offish and trying not to get anyone to not come back. But 70 members of a forum and no one knows about clubs etc, doesnt sound right to me. If its for Harley's then there's HOG or HDRCGB.
Mind you whenever I hear the question about clubs, always reminds me of the Simpson, and the Hells Satans episode, bloody hilarious

If the 100% Biker stall is set up at a rally then we all head there at some point. Once you have found one or two peeps who've met from here then others will be pointed out and introoduced etc.... it kinda grows from then on
oh and some of us have our names written on our jackets etc

Hmm, ive only just caught up with this thread. Things are moving bleedin quick on the 100% forums at the moment, the threads i posted on last night are now three pages under.
I know im gonna get shot down in flames for this post but im going to say it anyway.
Some of you seem to have changed your tune a bit since Thrusts '2600 miles, South of France' post but what is it with all this 'Im in the know but im not telling you' and 'If you have to ask, you wouldnt understand' crap?? its always the same when anyone tries to ask what the score is. Is it really necessary?
There was a similar(ish) thread running recently over on BW and knowing that there were a couple of MC inc one HA member on there i asked a question and instead of getting told to go away and play with my marbles, i got straight informative intelligent answers… a refreshing change.

There was a similar(ish) thread running recently over on BW and knowing that there were a couple of MC inc one HA member on there i asked a question and instead of getting told to go away and play with my marbles, i got straight informative intelligent answers… a refreshing change.

if you want to start a club just do it, ffs if there's 70 of you what have you got to worry about :)
But seriously as long as it isn't back patch I don't see why you should have any problems. I've been in a few clubs over the years and started one myself, never asked anyone's permission never would either.

Some of us are or were members of the Geordie Chapter.some dont like the politics or holier than thou attitude of certain Harley owners which is why the forum was started.
Many of us wondered about the biking etiquette because after asking various Geordie Hog members we got conflicting answers about whether or not a club in any shape or form was feasible without aggro.
Well can see his point so will give benefit, lol.
Seems to me that the lot ooo buy there hog card with the bike stay within them selves (i may be wrong on some counts) so thrust is trying to diversify but he not gonna get anywhere asking them lot is he? lol
Just attend rallies/events, thrust, mingle and chat etc and just make good friends, you'll find out a lot more than just walking up to some1 and saying how do i join/start a club, sounds a bit deparate.
Wot bout your local mag lot? not my cuppa tea but is others.
Tyxylix for me then, Cheers thrust.
I remember when I lived in the USA drinking bottles of Robotusin DM (childrens medicine) to trip!
Happy days and mines a Talisker please thrust :D

Keep up, I gave him all the contact details a while back :D
Thrust if you just wanna ride about with your mates and be visibly together then the worst thing you can do is style your club on outlaw clubs that you've seen in magazines or on the net.
The fashion of recent years is to proclaim yourself an attitude free side patch club then cover the front of your jacket with little flashes informing us who is president, prospect, sergeant, and VP.
We dont need to know, i'm sure you all know already who plays what part.
If you style yourself on the clubs you dont wanna attract the attention of, then you can be sure you'll soon attract it.
Be wary of regional patches as well, another common bone of contention.
There are more than a few heavier clubs in the area you're from.
If you're concerned enough to ask us, then perhaps you should ask them. Something made you sign up on here to ask, so perhaps you knew the answer already.

A perfect example of the route i'm trying to advise the bloke not to take.
Rally clubs talking about "getting patched up" etc.
So "suspects will be publicly humiliated then formally patched" eh?
I try myself not to live as if i'm in a 70's biker fiction paperback.

Might as well go same route we did. T-shirts only, no patches, no bull****.
Mind you, we're just a owners club anyway so don't count :D

ahhh that still on there? I am currently rebuilding the website. I left when all that nonsense started. When the antagonists left I reformed with the original members and we have none of that malarky.
It is literally a NO attitude family club. I appreciate your need to be vitriolic about it and your cute "I try myself not to live as if i'm in a 70's biker fiction paperbac" comment but when if you ever meet me you'll realise that you can't get further away from that if you tried.
we are a rally club because we were doing alot of rallies and wanted to put one on, unfortunately the club moved in the wrong direction but we're back on track now.
We don't give grief, we don't antagonise we keep ourselves to ourselves , have no affiliations or political aspirations. We are 4 blokes enjoying biker life.
When the website is rebuilt (eta end of the month) all of that bull**** will be gone.
