I arrived in Faro on Wednesday night at 7 and found to my surprise that the campground was much busier that it is normally for the weds, it seems that those who rode overland had arrived slightly early, (and at this rate, for the 2006 25th anniversary rally, you’ll need to get there even earlier than weds to get a good spot).
Although I still managed to meet up as planned with El-Mick, As it’s the 4th time Id been to Faro, the early part of the evening was spent renewing acquaintances from previous years with those who I nearly always only meet there, and chatting to those who I met for the 1st time. Then it was off down to the local restaurant for dinner and over the road to Tatiana’s bar for more beer, by the time I knew it must have been 3 -4am.
Thursday morning, or was it lunch time things got moving, it was time to head off into faro to the jumbo market to get the essentials such as several bottles of vodka, then back to the rally in time to get in the queue for the signing in and paying the 35 euro entrance fee. There was some entertainment on in the main arena. But Thursday night was spent sat around the on site bar near where I was camping.
Friday the rally kicked off in earnest and everyone got into full rally mode. The bands where as usual impeccable but through the beer and voddie haze they sounded great but I can’t recall who they where at any particular moment. The MCF club had done a great job of erecting a podium in the middle of the main beer tent at the top of the hill for those wishing to display their dancing/stripping, and as usual several of the British attendees both male and female where eager to oblige, and while I was chatting to Mr Chaz 1 of the Joanna’s wish crew climbed up and displayed slightly more than his dancing skills, and from then on it was no stopping the eager brits for getting up and putting on a show, especially 1 young lady who some of us know from 1 of the forums did an excellent job of rousing the crowd on both Friday and Saturday nights (pictures to follow ;) ) the only person I missed on Friday was Blackhack as he’d been chatting to Chaz before I showed up.
Saturday when I finally got up out of my tent I headed of into Faro town and spent part of the afternoon there then headed off towards the beach. I had just enough time Saturday before the bands to wander around the site to get a few pics, and came across the extreme trifle crew (pictures to follow), who had ridden down to the rally on a bunch of Honda C90`s, averaging 60 miles a day so I was told. The highlight for me of Saturday night was Peter Framton playing, :) which is when dibbles got back on the podium in the beer tent and showed peeps her dancing skills again, and then got back up later and dragged her mate up to join her.
sunday was spent packing up and watching the prize giving, before heading off home, but unfortunatly the battery of my camera gave up sat evening so I couldn`t get any pics, I did manage about 100 though, I finally got home about 11:30pm on sunday having left the the majority packing up and either heading off towards home or towards quitera, or some where staying over for the sunday night ready to travel home early inc Abbs
BTW Someone should put a health warning on that Brazilian cocktail bar because at 3 euros a go they can get you seriously pissed quickly. So at about 3am on Sunday morning I found myself wandering back to my tent on autopilot.
the only thing that I didn`t like over the weekend was the rash which some people (inc me) ended up with, it looks like the mozzies have had a field day with my arms + legs.making me look like a junkie on a bad day, but theres some debate as to weather it was mozzies or a reaction to some part of the trees on site
