sykes wrote the last 2 albums before coverdale went all usa, slide it in, and 1987,
seen moody and marsden, with the drummer from dire straights, and the bass player from some other band , forgot who he was.
but it was a real small club in carlisle, more like a small pub, really personal, you should have heard what moody and marsden were saying about coverdale when folk asked where he was , things like ,he is washing his hair tonight , or would not get his head in here. :)
another good coverdale one is , Dio was auditioning guitarists, and coverdale was there , a 17 year old played . coverdale asked him how old he was, the lad replied, im as old as you want to be :D
but will say up to coverdale went to the states i really quite liked them, seen the usa line up at donnington, was just ok though
David Coverdale has a nasty habit of working with top notch guitarists, Ritchie Blackmore, Moody and Marsden, John Sykes, Adrian Vanenberg and for a short time, Steve Vai! The last Donnington appearance for Whitesnake was outstanding with Vanenberg and Vai getting to play one of their own songs each during the set and constantly exchanging some absolute killer solo's. It was Air Guitar heaven. :D

I seem to remember a band called Blue Murder formed by him.
I with Dougie on Rory Gallagher mind :D

Having seen Paul Rodgers performing with Queen in Cardiff back in May he would have been top of my list for living Vocalists but if we are talking all time then you got to go a long way to beat Freddie Mercury.
I do like a bit of White snake myself and having Shared a few pints with Neil Murray (very nice chap he plays Bass for the Queen musical We Will Rock You at the moment)I rate him very highly for the ultimate Bass player
