anyone got one?

got me lad his gear at the weekend, cost a small fortune but he has a good helmet and jacket etc....

so got me thinking about my stuff, old leather jacket and a 40 quid bieffe lid...

obviously going a wee bit faster now so thought best get a decent lid and some gloves.

seen a caberg lid, dont know model for £100, was matt black, had an internal black pilots erm eye visor, wich flips up and down, and usual standard visor. full face...

havent heard much about caberg, are they decent or should I go the arai/agv/shark method?

and what wrong wiv me friggin "O" button arghh :D

I've got one....I think theyre **** hot....I sometimes get that locked in feeling...( a throwback to my psycadelic days) so the ability to just lift up the full face bit and turn it into an open face is great.....not to mention the pull down sunshade....It might not be the most expencive lid out there but for the price its a good bet.....

A few mates of mine have them, and they swear by them now :)

whats it like quality wise? does the visor blow open at speed when doing a lifesaver? ever dropped it? would like protection rating type of thing... aye it's been approved, but if I have to wear a lid I want somat safe

Blurt....I dont really matter what you wear...If your going over the high side, you never land on your head anyway.....lol.

BUT.....

As far as quality goes...its good for the price...I've dropped mine onto a concrete floor and never even marked the finish....The particualr model I have converts from/to an open/full face with the sunvisor intergrated inside the shell
And It only cost me just £100 last year....If price is an issue, you wont go far wrong with one of these....

somewhat disagree, about 7 years ago I lost it on the annadale embankment, diesel spill on a long fast bend, me head bounced of a lampost, the lid was tore from me head, I stuck me hands over me head as a natural reaction and clobbered the steel railing behind it. me kevlar glove was tore open and I have a bit of a scar on me hand. the police found me unconscious, never did find the lid

got of lucky, didn't break anything, couldn't walk for a few weeks due to the stitches.... me CX was ruined tho :(

well highside maybe, I seem to land on me arse, looking backwards at a bike tumbling towards me laughing manically :D

Caberg are VERY big in Germany.
If the Krauts like them you can be sure the quality is ok.
Ive only ever read good things about them but never actually had one.

read a few reviews on the web, MCN likes em, the user reviews were mixed (for the jussimo) seemed a bit awkward etc, thought about the flip lid, hornet to me XS so I can have a smoke and a cuppa.... but dont know much about the chin opening at a high speed crash... never had one so obviously curious before I splash out me hard earned

Consider the direction forces are likely to be in if involved in a crash. Chin highly unlikely to come open. The locking mecahnisms are pretty secure anyway. caberg is one of the biggest manufacturers of flip up lids with one of the most developed designs so if its to be a flip up, you could do worse.

Only thing Id be a bit wary of is that flip ups often have less peripheral vision. Put one on and see!

Blackhack, how long and complicated is it to change between the 2?

blackhack

simple, just a release catch and it flips up.....much like the BMW, or BELL helmet....its all intergrated....its not detachable though

it makes life for me , as a spec wearer so simple...

dont have one,but did wear me mates a while back, round his for too long on a sunday with a black visor on my bashie
november evenings, bit damp, dark, instant fog up when you stop, just flip it up and no problems :D

i bought an arashie crash helmet for me mum for crimbo, these are very well built, quiet lids for under £50,as good as much more expensive ones.

those flip crash helmets with the pull down sunny visor are cool, but im a slave to fashion so i got a craft wiv black visor

Bought mine due to specs refusing to go through opening of AGV helmet. AGV seem to have the narrowest opening (and therefore field of view) of any helmet I've ever worn. Lost lads VFR 400 R on a bend to deisel spillage and did most of the trip sliding on my face. Was wearing a shark then and at 55mph it fecke4d the visor, which stayed whole and shut, and ground the edge off the lower lip of the facial opening. The Caberg I have looks as strong and reliable as the shark and I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend them. Mine is a J1 Plus which does not have the intergrated pilots visor.

Wish I'd bought one instead of this Roof (Boxer)....Roof flip front is not a problem...nor is the xtra dark visor U can buy from certain outlets...but there ferkin noisey....however good access for specks wearers....or good ole shades and there 120 quid cheaper......(Caberg)

I bought the V2 model a couple of weeks ago. Not the flip up one, normal full face with internal black visor. I think it's great. Excellent visibility, no problems with the visor lifting and good if your a spec wearer. Would certainly recommend it!

and can`t fault it, the flip up locking mechanism is good, the visor can be locked down so theres no chance of it blowing up at high speed, and gives a decent rain seal too they are one of the best lids when it comes to wind noise reduction / ear protection according to MCN. I also have the kit for converting it to open faced but ain`t used it yet, but its only a matter of slipping off the pear shaped clips to reveal the screws either side, it takes about 2 mins to convert to open faced or back so 2 in 1 helmet :D

My advise is, buy what feels comfortable, makesure it is a tight fit around the temples, and cheeks, but doesn't pinch. If you wear specs, make sure they can be easily slotted into the opening and fit properly on your face and don't move off your nose when turning head from side to side, (believe it or not glasses do move in the crash hat at speed!). Make sure the helmet reaches well down over the back of the head. Helmets can lift at speed. Make sure the chin strap has a good catch. I personally prefer the safety belt-type catch, as I have found that D-ring types end up stretching.

Finally, buy the best that you can afford, If you want a flip front jobbie I think it is Schubert, I'm not sure exactly do an excellent flip, as well as Shoei.

Shop around. I'm not saying Caberg are crap, I'm saying look around before deciding. you are a long time dead, or even worse, have scrampled egg for brains! If you get the wrong lid!

Our model, and his by the osunds of it, are the 104. The V2 refers to the dual visor system. They are British Motorcycle Racing Gold Rated lids - always a good sign.

Only thing I have noticed is that they are noisey. However, I can confirm that the visor will stay shut at speeds of above 120 mph whilst doing a lifesaver.

Or so my mate tells me.

i REMOVED THE FACE OFF MINE. Good lid though, dropped it loads of times. ....scratched to buggery and not the noisiest. All I would say is that 90+ with the face up puts a hell of a strain on the old neck.

I've got the Justissimo (sp?). Had it for quite a while.

First impression was that it was very noisey compared to the standard Shoei before - but I think all open front lids are noisier than standard full face: just wear earplugs.

The visor and the flip front are solid at all speeds and I've never had the problem of it opening when I didn't want it to open. It's easy to open - even while rolling (but the manual doesn't recommend you do that). The manual also doesn't recommend you ride with the front up - but I've seen 40mph+ on the speedo and the flip-front of the lid was steady.
The internal smoked visor is brilliant. Sometimes shades can shake and move around on the bridge of your nose over uneven surfaces but you don't get that with the internal visor - and you don't have to stop if the road goes into a tunnel or it starts raining: just pop it back up.
Also the top vent really seems to help in this hot weather.

I only have a head (mushed up as it is) because of a decent quality full faced helmet.

Strangely enough I now wear a 'piss-pot' which will be very safe, if I fall off backwards :D

I don't know why I have posted this :o
