Hi folks

Just spent the last 2 weeks riding through Scotland avoided all speed traps and cameras. Get back to Shetland, hop on the bike to go to work.Twist the throtle up into second about to go to third when the BARSTEWARD jumps out at me and claims I was doing 56 in a 30 zone.

So what I want to know, seeing as I'm awaiting my summons, is what can I expect to get.

ps had a clean licence up until this time

wheres the proof?? unless theres evidence from using a mobile gatso camera then its your word against theirs, and if you dont sign the paperwork you get through the post it gets thrown out of court anyway

It was a laser camera and I was invited to sit in the back of the car, with a very good looking policewoman

yeah i had to do that many years ago cos i was caught speeding and was still in my navy uniform, she obviously thought i was a bit of alright, just dont sign the summons, admit you were riding the bike but if its not signed by you (which by law you dont have to sign ) then the courts throw it out

Did she show you the reading on the gun? Did it say 56Mph? Oh dear!

Being nearly twice over the limit, I'd say a hefty fine and a disqualification. Transportation to the colonies?

I got flashed twice by a speed camera the other day - it must have been me as no one else was about. I was doing 38.....2 miles an hour UNDER the speed limit posted all along that road. I knew the camera was there and that's why I was under the limit.
No doubt they will now send me a ticket so how the f**k do I prove I wasn't speeding, it's my word againt their camera?????

Not necessarily. Sometimes they flash but have no film in! The film cartrdges are rotated around the area to save dosh, so some GATSOs aren't loaded but will still activate! It's the film that records the evidence!

Don't flap yet, wait for the paperwork which I think has to arrive within 14 days of the offence by law! The 14 day bit varies I believe depending which forces area your in. Check on that bit!

If they do go ahead and prosecute, they will have photographic evidence from the GATSO to produce in court if you go that far. This will be two photies of your good self progressing through the zone, which will both have a date / time group on it and your speed. Sorry, not a lot you can do at that point!

Yes they did show me the reading but admitted they were only going to charge me with speeding as the road was clear the sun was out. No other cars bikes sheep or people on the road. Also said they would not support a charge of dangerous driving, So just straight speeding.

Don't admit anything until they have confirmed if the Laser Reader was calibrated that day. They have to calibrated daily I am 'ADVISED' and so unless they can prove it was, the machine itself cannot be used to prove diddley squat on that our kid.

No they didn't give me that option. But heard the new sheriff has been jailing the drink drivers and let of someone who was caught speeding with no insurance, no tax and only a provisional licence. They got a total of £75 fine and 5 points.

So hope for me yet
