View Full Version : Thr right look?

I seem to have read quite a few adverts lately from bike clubs seeking new members, both online and in the bike magazines....
Quite a few of em say what kind of bikes etc. they are for and what kind of club it is... party club, family club... rally club..etc...and thats fair enough, but several of them then go on to say that applicants must "Look the part"?...
So it begs the question... what is the look that looks the part?
I always thought that bikers are bikers from the inside.. first and foremost...I have never met most folk on here, but i enjoy their posts and love reading about the everyday things that they do, and feel a part of something larger than just me, by being privvy to their problems and good stories etc and am really looking forward to meeting lots of em.... ...Now if I met em and found that they were 5'2", seven stone and nerdy.. should it make any difference at all to me... (it wouldnt by the way). But it seems that to some clubs ..it would.. I know great lads and lassies that certainly do not fit the stereotyped image of rufty tuftys...but ride their bikes everywhere and all the time...
There are all sorts of bikers at meets, rallies etc.. so why do clubs specify what look they want?..OR is the look the most important thing to these clubs? and if it is...why is that?

I would venture that those that want peeps who join to look the 'part', then the part they resemble is a dick or the feminine equivelent... ie a cnut!
Probably one of those HA wannabe's that Blue was on about, want the look but lack the balls to go all the way. If you are going to look like a backpatcher (?) then be one, don't dick about, otherwise be a straight mcc/party club/rally club....

I agree with you Bassman.....what does it matter how you look........you're a biker....full stop.
Fayji, where did you find my pictre?!
The catalogue company said they wouldn't use my pictures anymore as they make me look too gay. Even Rob Halford won't talk to me because I look super-gay!
naahhhhh fayji - he can't be a biker - cos he ain't got
tattoos
piercings
shaved head/long hair
funny ikkle beard
bandanna (sp?)
originals
cut-off (leather tho - denim ones are for music lovers)
rally patches/badges
dirty fingernails
a mean look (his face is just too clean)
beer belly
missing teeth

Surely if you ride a bike you will look like a biker because you will be a biker.
This reminds me of Country Life magazine doing a feature on what's fashionable in the Cotswolds.
It was all complete bollox.
We wear clothes that are available from the nearest shop at the right price. Brand new cloathing is usually kept as best for a while, as are shoes n boots. If we're working, doing the gardening, taking a stroll or any other pastime where we are likely to get our clothes dirty/wet/stained/torn... we wear old or very cheap kit that we dont mind if we damage or wreck.
Bloody Country Life turned it into a fashion parade... twats

hee hee so did they do a feature of you in CL mister freak?

Unfortunatly Country Life magazine has feck all to do with country life any more.
It only perceives the country as city folk expect it to be.
These days it's all manor houses, designer interiors and gardens, Bentleys on the drive.
DONT GET ME STARTED

uh oh - too many red faces - lets get back to biker-man at C&A then.... :D

The right look for me is whatever I'm feel comfortable with at the time.
This may or may not be leathers, textiles bike gear, combat trousers, jeans etc.
I have in fact been seen wearing a kaftan at some very hot rallies.

Bugger, i cant join these clubs then :o The shame of it all.
I ride a 650 trailie, i like designer clothes and aftershaves (i do spend a lot of time in combats and t shirts though), I wear a lot of outdoor gear to cause i like hiking and the likes. I aint got a goatee or a denim cutoff. Shock horror, i aint even got a leather jacket anymore. I wear MX boots on me bike as theyre comfortable (Oxtar TCX MX boots, look like a stormtroopers boots as they are white and black, well comfy though). I have got a few tattoos and a shaved head though but thats mostly from being an ex skinhead. Oh, i like sports bikes to and even have an Arai Quantumn and some dayglo orange, white and black race leathers.
I hang my head in shame. :o
Maybe my music tastes well win me a little more respect though, i like real punk (The Exploited, GBH, Anti Nowhere League etc), Oi!, Rock, metal etc. Heres hoping huh.

this thread has really made me smile, I am first to admit that I dotn conform to the normal "idea" created by the public and the press etc as to what a biker does or should look like, Im similar to the other guy that posted on here, I like to wear nice clothes and look nice, usually trousers, nice shirts, do have combats etc for working and playing etc, but shock horror I dont have any jeans LOL
no facial hair, short haired and I drive a car as well, yes I am tattooed and plan to have many more, but no piercings.
its not the clothes/bolt on/grow on/stick thru accesories that make the biker, its whats inside them, and whats between the persons legs OH ER MISSUS LOL
In all honesty I normally look like a redneck. Jeans , cowboy boots, teeshirt and meshback. Or shortsleeved shirt meshback and jeans.

now real bikers would know this
*snigger*
no I apologise, originals are jeans which haven't been washed - ever - and are worn every day on the bike, at work, covered in oil and muck etc etc and apparently are very good insulators and keep the rain off, presumably because of all the oil n grease in em
when I was young if you wanted to be considered a real biker you wore originals, leather jacket, cut-offs were optional unless you were in a MC, oh yeah, and you had to have a bike - and use it - no car lol
*those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance, forever and a day, da da da* - sorry, had a Mary Hopkins moment there :D

I guess I'm just a motorcycle enthusiast! :)
interesting point made by a 'trendy' friend at his first rally was that he wished he'd worn his leather jacket cos he felt 'out of place'
so he was in T shirt and jeans.....wonder why he felt out of place hmmmmm
Had a couple of suspects in our club that did the same at a 3 b's bash. They actually went home to lose the one piece coloured coded leathers and borrowed a couple of hoodies!

I thought a squint and a nervous twitch was obligatory from avoiding all the elderly drivers in the area and a hunchback from trying to get a month's shopping home on the bike in a rucksack, ooh yes, and scabby knees from coming off.
Ride free on the back of the jacket is optional ;)
I reckon I probably fit in to the sterotypical look as much as the next bloke (or woman, lets not be sexist)!
But I don't do or wear anything to 'fit in', I don't ever fit in anywhere really.
Just ride my bikes, meet some good blokes and girls and do me own thing.
As you can see, I'm not really 'CLUB' material.

I think Blue hit the nail squarly on its head with the comment about.. "wanna be HA's but without the committment and long term effort it takes to be one..."
its a real shame that folk still have to try and catagorize other people.. especially other bikers... and not just enjoy the bike and the way of life without the bull**** that goes with it sometimes..

Ff's, I know that feeling. Those of us who have done years of study and gone through horrendous ordeals at the hands of some coven or other to become "proper" witches, just to have some tosser in a designer cloak in Hastings call himself the "King of the witches" and appear on numerous tv programmes when he has done fuck all!!! I know exactly how the HA feels and sympathise!

Confession time....
Tats... 1 done to celebrate my first trip to Faro in 2000
Piercings.... None, never felt like them, when I was a lad only gays and sailors had piercings, guess the stigma stuck. Fair play to those who have them. Babs had her belly-button done at 61 yrs old.
Beard... A facial piece of topiary, very full
Bandana.. Union jack one for use in faro during ride-out, also faro arab head-dress
Cut off... Yes denim, leather is for muso's
Rally patches badges.. newer ones on cut off, older ones went with jacket, some dating back to the thirties, given to me by family members
Dirty fingernails.. Always
Originals... Never went down that road, though I had my leather jacket for 25 years till my second wife burnt it, that's why she's now an ex.
A mean look... Just try telling me it's my round, I can be very mean.....
Beer belly.. Not an optional extra
Missing teeth.. All of them, had them all out when I came back from Nigeria.
Looking at everybody elses answers it just shows what a diverse lot we are here on 100%. I think it is the differences that keep this forum fresh, unlike some where everybody is like clones of the web-master..... Think a certain American forum that we crashed recently. I haven'yt yet posted on there, due to lack of time, but expect to be banned for insubordination when I do.

I've seen a couple of clubs destroyed by plastic bikes... first one or two members bought them then lots of new members joining had them, and well tbh and I don't care who I offend a lot of plastic bike riders aren't in my eyes bikers, just feckin' chavs on 2 wheels.
