Okay everyone, as it seems most of you are veterans of bike rallies, id be interested in your veiws on the best kind of tent to take to these rallies, i have loads of tents but the only one that would fit on the bike is an old 2 man tent that has largeish stainless steel poles which are a bit big for bike riding

Army and navy stores sell poncho's. Wear it when it rains. Sleep under it when yer pissed. bungee it to the bike, hey presto, instant luxury.
Ok, so your feet may get wet and your face definately will. But hey, we're big tough bikers, we don't mind a little moisture....

Wotcha.
I use the Khyam "one touch" tents - OK, they may be expensive, but the time and hassle they save is well worth it.

We have a fantastic Khyam Highlander 3, it has integral poles that just need a couple of clicks and the tent is up in 2 minutes, no threading of poles through bits of fabric or getting an inner lining up and soaked in the rain - it's all up in a few swift clicks! Plus it's very hardy, we've taken ours on numerous bike rallies and it's still going strong. If any bits do break Khyam do a repair service and replace them.
It comes in loads of sizes but we take the two man on rallies and the big one if we're going somewhere in the car and camping.
The advantage with integral poles is that you can't accidentally forget to pack them like we did with our old tent when we went to Ireland!!!!

Millets 2 man tent - small, light, easy to put up and virtually disposable. A good sleeping bag is a better investment. Waterproof, drawstring hood and as high a tog rating as you can get :)

I use a Vango Storm 300 tent, ally poles, semi geodesic, blah blah blah. It was 180 quid which sounds expensive for a big 2 manner tent but when you compare it against the North Face, Mountain Hardwear etc its bloody good. Oh, its stood 80mph gusts of wind in minus 25 wind chill :D Yeah, i prefer camping, climbing trekking in the winter :D
Heres a few websites for you anyway, worth a look for clobber if nowt else :D

If nothin else these are good to see whats about. Oh, get yerself a Petzl Tikka headtorch ( great when pissed as you dont have to hold a bloody torch or anything when trying to undo zips etc) and a bloody good sleeping bag to :D

3 years and no leaks.
decent sized bag (so u can get it back in)

I can get hold of the Gelert range of tents, plus sleeping bags and all camping equipment. I don't know about quick erection jobbies, but 3 man Igloo types start from about £30 quid. Anyone interested drop me and email?
After you dealt with your quick erection, Gelert also do blow up camping matresses, nice n' cheap from Ewockandtuck Emporium!
