If you have any older log books knocking about then you need to get the updated version or have a real hard time retaining your number plate.
Cut off date is July this year

From 1 July 2005 all existing V5 registration documents will no longer be valid. except the new double page ones. They've just started to put a TV ad out about it.
If you've got a legal entitlement to a registration number though, you will still be able to get, but you must be able to prove with photographic evidence that the complete vehicle still exists.
Anyone who has hoarded a few old log books in the cupboard for a future project are going to be in deep sh1t, unless you send the logbook off to have it changed to the newer type now.
Those who will mainly affected on here will be anyone with an older V5, that corresponds with that old frame in the shed, or that pile of axle/engine/gearbox that used to be a Reliant Robin. In a few weeks time if you haven't sent for the new V5, you will still be the owner of said bike or plastic pig, but not its registration number if you can't prove that the vehicle/bike is still legally all there.
