Been getting some kit off Ebay, haven't done too badly so far.BUT,why are some folk so daft?I'm looking at brake pads, starting bid £0.99,but twice somebody has put a first bid in at £5!! WHY??? He coulda just put in £0.99 and it might have gone up to about £2! He's spoiling it for us all.
Buffoon!

Don't think so,I got a set of pads off them a couple of weeks ago for £2,their rating is very good,99.8%,and it's a bike shop I know of.I think it could be someone who lost out before and is putting in a high initial bid to try and discourage others.

I must admit I have bidded on mates stuff before, but always £1 below reserve price to help them hit it.

Am I missing something here or is this not the point of proxy bidding on ebay?

You find something you like, stick a bid on for as much as you're prepared to pay and then forget about it. If you get an email in a few days saying you've won the auction - excellent. If not, then it obviously went for more than you were prepared to pay.

You just dont like competition on an item you're after yerself ;)

If you bid a fiver and the items initial bid is 99p then if no-one bids it wont go up from 99p.
