I have to say I don't wear leather strides and if it's hot avoid gloves as well. ... i know, I know road rash etc but I have to say I ride for comfort not for a statement about how cool I am .

That said I'm looking for some lace ups for less than £65 and I'll probably wear them all the time.

just out of curiosity

how does a trike handle in a collision (say t boneing a car for example)

i dont wear protective jacket trousers on my trike, i do however religiously where a helmet and gloves (as without my last helmet i would be dead by now)

just wondered like???
anyone crashed a trike?

we have em over hear a lot - i used to stop them and gently try n tell them what will happen when the come off/hit something ( saw it happen when i was 16 and the images are still fresh in my mind some 20 odd years l8er).

one person reported me for harressing them... so dont bother now.

The problem is these days kids are not made to be responsible for there actions !!!!!!! they dont stop tho consider whats gonna happen or care about the peole/family who have to pick up the pieces either...

This is one area I believe should be included in teh theory test !!!! they should be make to what films/photoes of real accidents of the consequences if they ride improperly atired.

not that im saying that i ride in all my well protected leathers all the times - in hot wether often ride in jeans - but im just that bit more careful. even in the hot weather would rather sweat in me leather jacket and bike boots than risk it

have to say I'm guilty of that from time to time, only if I'm nipping to the shop or round the block, never when going more than a mile.

Dont own never have owned leather trousers so me riding gear is just heavy jeans with thermal waterproofs if it's pissing it down and boots.

plenty of offs but my jeans and boots have never failed.... bloody gloves and lid did once though, mind you they did their job.

Yeah and they think road rash can be cured with an application of savalon and a plaster

Local guy rides an old Trident in flip flops, (I call him Philip -Philip Fillop). How the hell does he change up through the gears? Must have toes like steel.
I deliver the mail along the road past the local tech college, attended by every chavvy pill*ck within a 20 mile radius. Today I witnessed a young kid in cheap white shell suit jacket & jogging bottoms, trainers, cheap chunky gold chains & no gloves, screaming up & down the road all lunchtime, weaving in & out of the traffic, revving the nuts off a little trailie. Flat out around a builders' van -straight into the path of a fully laden double decker bus. Screeching brakes, Big cloud of rubber smoke from the bus. Gawd knows how he pulled up in time. Hope no-one onboard was hurt. Really thought the little sh*t was gonna die. Really deserved to & I for one wouldn't have had a shred of sympathy.
His reaction? Two fingers to the bus driver whose just saved his life & screamed off up the road to continue dicing with the traffic. Rider education is wasted on tw*ts like that. I know they give us a bad name but they're not bikers. They'd be scum no matter what their mode of transport. Probably wrong thread for a rant but had to say it!

I have tbh sometimes I'll go out in jeans and a T-shirt if I'm only scooting to the shops (like 1 mile and back)

but generally I get my leather on, but we have to have the right to wear whatever the fuck we want... I still don't think helmets should have to be worn, but that said I would wear one 99% of the time, I just think it should be my choice.

do you lot on the mainland need a cbt before touching a bike / scooter? we dont... no DAS here either, everyones restricted for 2 yrs

sounds like the little chav who nicked my 125, police knocked him off but he got away. left burnt shellsuit on the exhaust so I was scouring the A&E's looking for the little sh***

To Manky Monkey-(too slow with posting this  )

No m8,yer right.Edinburgh's full of twist'n'gos,a lot of 'em are kids with no clue, some are car drivers with no sense. To Joe Public, they're the same as us so we get lumped in with their stupidity.Try telling any of them about protection and you just get a mouthful.........

I'm starting to sound a right miserable git on here -I don't rant all the time, honest! Usually very easy going but just loathe p*llocks.
Took delivery of a new crash helmet this morning! Shiny metallic green Roof Daytona full face to match my Speed Triple. Girlfriend's not into bikes so I've hired a car to take her out for the weekend, so now I can't test drive the new lid till next week. Could wear it in the car I suppose.
Anyone else got the same model? What d'ya think of it?

we see the same kind of stuff up here , i always put my leathers on when i go pillion ( after coming off an ex b/f bike when i was young near the metro centre ,some prat in a nova had missed the slip road and cut over the lane ,i was wearing leathers then which i was very pleased about when i ended up in the middle of the f*ckin A1 with a 750 on top of me legs and a cracked casing peeing hot oil over me!)
when i see young kids with their birds on the back of scooters ,the girls in short skirts and stillettos it makes me think will the boy stick by her when she,s disfigured for life due to road rash ,or worse.

well thats my rant over ,
all i can say to that is hope everyone on here stays safe :)

I have to plead guilty to the jeans and tee shirt, but then Im stupid, but freedom of choice is important. but we should also be well enough informed to make our own choices, and the best lesson in not riding with gloves, or even trousers...................cringeing just thinking of gravel rash on mi ickle tadger................ is a quick slide down old mrs gravel, once is enough.

Personally I would walk that distance you lazy git. :D

I always wear my leather or gortex jacket while riding, even if it's just a mile. I do, however, wear jeans in good weather. Always wear my boots too, I've had a couple of off's and without the protection, would have been in a right state.
I still respect everyone's right of stupidity. Your choice, more power to you.

Once got up really early to go to uni, was knackered from the night before and had got about a mile before thinking, "there's something very wrong going on here"!!! Realized I had no gloves or helmet on.........went home shamefaced :o

My friend Hugo, UKIP candidate in the election, goes everywhere on his harley wearing shorts and sandals and nowt else. We are always arguing about it and yes he has come off a couple of times. He says it's a free country and he'll wear what he likes, he is an adult and he alone is responsible for his own health not me or the nanny state.
He often gets stopped by the plod and told off about it, the last one was just a young plod and she told Hugo (60 yrs old) he had no respect for authority (i.e her), I'm glad I wasn't there to see him wipe the floor with her :) He has a way with words :)
