in fact i've had it for almost 2 years now. its had work done on it, we mot'd it
it has now run out after doing a total of zero miles in 12 months.
i haven't heard from the customer in 12 months.
does anyone know the process to take possesion of said bike?
taxidave need not reply as i don't want the prison sentence which would no doubt follow if i took the advice he would no doubt give me :D :D

All I was going to say was no wonder innocent bikers get picked on by the Police whilst doing more than thirty seven miles an hour around the Welsh roads, when some nutter like you has serviced one of their bikes and then moved premises without telling them.

i would presume you note down the times you try and contact the owner ( do you have any detaisl) if no answer after reasonable time 3 months?, apply for new reg doc in your name..
you will eventually recieve doc's. i did this with a small bike i found dumped at work, police not interested and said try to contact owner etc i put notices round..
no doubt someone, knows full legal bit, but worked for me

I'm pretty sure that if you send off to DVLA for new docs that they send a letter to the last registered owner to see if they have any objection. If they have died/moved/given up then you are ok.

I think there are a couple of legal step involving in establishing a lien over the bike (your local CAB should be able to tell you), one of which is you have to put a notice in the newspaper local to the owner, informing him of your intent.

I had to do this with a Maserati once, long ago...so it might have changed now....I was doing freelance recovery, and to have trade plates i needed premisis to hold 10 cars, that was covered....This dude was arrested then deported after an incodent, where i attended to remove this maserati....we had to charge him storage of £60 a day, we had to prove he knew this, we were advised that we needed to have a solicitor send the registered keeper a letter of lien, and if there was no payment recived in 3 months, then ownership became payment for storage and recovery costs......Dvla as far as i know do not send out a letter to the previous owner, as ive sold bucket loads of cars and bikes and busses over the years, and 80% would have been in my name, and ive never had a letter from dvla.....
so go to a solicitor, send out a letter to the owner, charge the owner for this letter, have the letter state that you are charging £20 a day storage of his machine, by the time he gets the letter hes going to be at least £80 down, and by the time you add the letter on top of that hes not going to contest it......letter will probably cost you around £40 to £60 notes
have fun with your bike
