View Full Version : New Website thoughts please...

We are starting work on our new 100% Biker website.
The reason for this Thread is that I would like some thoughts (not too Bizzarre) on any new features you may like to see.
I am not promising that we will be able to do everyting you guys suggest but if we can, we will.
So as loyal readers and followers of Pat's drivel ;) your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
The countdown conundrum clock has begun  tick....tick.....tick.....

Details of what's in the past issues might be nice. So at least you'd know which one to buy :)
to be honest I think this forum is fine the way it is,
one of the - no - THE BEST - I have used
perhaps a photo gallery could be added,
also what about a proper classifieds section unconnected to the forum where ads from the mag could be shown too?

What's wrong with this one????
Stuart Mears
01-07-2004, 09:35 AM
I did not mean this forum, we have only just updated this one! and I agree there is nothing wrong with it.
I meant the rest of the website, the bits you guys obviously skip past to head for gossip land ;)
Huw Beer Monster - Good Idea, consider it done.
Doro - Photo Gallery is a difficult one. If we allow people to download images to a gallary (and I am assuming there will be loads of images over a period of time) then this will not only use up a large amount of space on our server but could also possibly slow this website and our other websites on our server.
Thanks for your ideas, keep them coming :)

How about putting the whole of the mag online so that we don't have to go to the newsagents, and I know we could subscribe but that still means getting out of the chair and walking all the way to the front door once a month. :D :D :D

Taxi Dave,
Great Idea but......................No.
Would you like me to read it to you and pour beer and place strawberries gently in your mouth as you relax in your chair? ;) :D ;)

Ok, sad techie moment coming up.
Have you considered offering Subscribers only the ability to choose the delivery format of their magazine? Take a look at Zinio (http://www.zinio.com/), it's infinitely better than PDFs . If you went down this route then you could deliver back issues and copies of articles in this format. This then gives you the scope to change the website so that people can choose to purchase a paper copy of the mag at price x or to download a digital copy at price y.
p.s. hadn't seen your response to TaxiDave, but I still think it's a valid point.

Reading and beer yes, but the can you ask Pat to do the strawberries thing. :D
Good idea by Huw Beer Monster. Back issues straight to your PC would be good.
How about other payment formats for subscribing, back issues and t-shirts etc such as PayPal for instance. I've always got a few quid in the PayPal account and it would save trying to find where the wife has hid the credit card.
what about the seperate classifieds section??????

Don't say that Pat, some clever git (Yoda) will make her arse cheeks open and close to reveal a tattoo saying "Stuart woz 'ere"

you can link to my Events Page (open in a new window) if you like
i keep it updated and has quite a lot of events listed
http://www.bikerlifestyle.co.uk/event/calendar.htm
also what about doing a section on readers bikes and trikes that would not normally make it into the magazine's...especially as they do tend to have more 'Creative' features on them, rather than being 'showy'

how about a section where any rally attended can be reported on by anyone who went to it, just so we can all see what we missed.

pesonally on current site, large black box on right is a blot
and the map bits (roundabouty bit) top right on some pages are a tad messy
i would like them to be removed, and clean links on side for easy navigation
thats my two pennath
Nitrowing

The links on the side - either keep them on the side or keep them at the top as tabs like you have on most of the pages.
Wallpaper in the downloads section - how about the centrespread of each issue?
Nice use of sound and colour

Would love to be able to access all the old "TRIKE TEK" on the site some where in stead of taking hours looking through back numbers trying to rember where the bit was that you want. Even the mighty A/W cant rember what month the bits in about the leading link were in and he wrote the article ?.

Now that is a good idea... Who wants to spend most of their natural life indexing back issues....? It would be the best thing in the world but just sooooo... much work, Now Neil... Wots he up to then..?

The old bill already give away that info, it's part of their 'service to the community'
The paper, which I work for in Brighton publishes details of which cameras are actually switched on, on a particular day - so it's your own problem if you read the paper and get caught...

not really i'm sure some forum member would provide a list of articles for a few mags at a time ,youd soon have the index complete
I like the idea for a seperate section for people to post their own rally reviews, that really emphasises (spelling?) what the mag is about.

Right here's my £0,02p worth ..
I agree with Royster & Jim (weren't they on a TV show ? :D ) a rally report section could be cool.
The classified's a good idea too , aswell as the back issue index .
However ............................
............................I can't get me headaround....................................
................why a photo section is such a BIG problem ????
Then I rarely see anything as a problem , gaffa tape an' cable ties and keep 'em comin'!!!!!!!!!! :D

This is a basic 'good idea'. All your websites should be linked. Trust me, I'm a rocket scientist :D

Photo gallery for all the mug shots, giving all the established members a space for their own photos, which is limited. that way the web site wont get too big. Like LYN did on MSN with "bikersstuff" So if you post new materail
then would have to delete the old first. :D

don`t you think in your case jonny, a good map section / route finder would be a good idea, considering your ability to get lost
Though personnally I`m definately in favour of a members gallery, and the ability to look up the photos of the rallys featured in 100% (whether from the current issue or from back issues) coz how often do you go to a rally and find yourself in the wrong place without a camera or your too drunk to take that all important piccy of either a fantastic bike / trike or someone making a complete prat of themselves. I know this means creating issues with server space

The one thing we dont want to turn into, is a dating site! This place is friendly and fun but we are not a dating service. That kind of thing causes so much friction and heartache, most folk that come on here are either a couple or part of a couple and although I have no probs with any single members doing their own thing I really dont like the idea of anyone using this site as a 'singles' site... cos its not.

For my two cents worth, the front cover as the opening page of the site is ok. Great infact! But coming to the site more often than not, it becomes a little stale. Why not have an opening page intro piece for the site as a separate entity, and do the front page of the mag as an intro for the “Whats in this issue?” bit. After all most of us that come to this site come having bought the mag in the first place, so do we need to see the cover again? Just a thought! :D

Can i be boring and point out that having someone with her baps out on the main www.100-biker.co.uk page means I cant open it at work in case someone checks the page after seeing it in access logs as sites with baps on display are against corporate policy. an to get here, means i have to go there first unless i remember the url...
Im all for lots of nice baps (he says checking behind him for mrs fluffy) but maybe not right out there on the first page you come to..
