having read that trikes owned/built for disabled people do not need an msva.
and if later sold to a non disabled person, still don't need an msva.
what do they class as disabled.
just asking as my mum has a disability car ,free tax etc.
am i seeing a loop hole here for saving money on the test or is it wishfull thinking??
if a loop hole, how do you prove its for a disabled person as it's not at the time registered?
i'm getting a headache now

If that is going to be a valid loophole I can see your mom becoming a bigger trike trader than Hayden. Every trike that you or anybody on the forum builds from now on could be registered in your moms name for a couple of months then could be sold back to the builder for a nominal sum. :D
Mine first !!

be honest guys, I may seem like a stick in the mud about this, but being disabled isn't nice as it is and i'd rather not be in this situation but to use us to get out of something or pay less for your own benefit is beyond my understanding...................
right, grab every penny you can and every granny off the street and keep them fed on bread and water with a promise of release once its registered lol
piss taking bastewards !!!!!! :D

My understanding goes that it has to be an Adapted Trike (adaptations suitable for a disabled person..and i would consider these to be more than minor adaptions)
but ultimatley i think you would be on dodgy ground .... especially if pulled by the Plod
and i must duplicate Triker_Gals comments
if this system gets abused it may get withdrawn the ultimatly bikers who can no-longer ride bikes/trikes any more will have even greater problems getting back on the road...it too me long enough and that was without an MSVA

oh dear
maybe i should have said a bit more in my post.
i am not looking for a way around the msva personaly.
i build vw trikes as my living(the type thats designed to take one of my own shells.)
i usually only sell shells or frames or both.
but i have 3 orders for complete trikes.
and was in the process of working out the cost inc msva,
when it came up about the disabled thing.
i am not about to start putting trikes into my mothers name.
besides i think they might catch on when they see that she owns 3 of them.
so to yoda and trikergal and anyone else who thinks i might be thinking of exploiting a loophole at the expense of others, disabled or not. WRONG..
was just asking to check the validity of what i was told.
due to the design and engines i use my trikes are only sutible for people with minor disabilities.
we are working on a gear change lever with an intregal clutch master cylinder built into it.
and a swingout frame so accept wheel chairs.
as i said i make my living doing this.
so even putting aside the ethical side.
i have never and never intend to exploit people who put food on my table and pay my bills. period...

sorry i am not accusing you of anything personally, its just that i fear that it is open to abuse, and it is a loss that would hurt a great many people.
the one thing i am unsure on is how they determine the need for the msva or not, and how they judge disability (whether it is a subjective or objective test)...
also the idea of the gear change lever is a good one (if my understanding is correct it would make it a semi auto?????? ie ..no clutch)
is that correct?

not quite
the one version would be best described as a master cylinder which is also a gear stick. it would still have a hand clutch lever you would have to depress on the gear stick.
the one we are also tring uses a petentiometer which would control the clutch electrically, i.e. the faster you move a small lever the quicker the clutch would engage/disengage.
both have they uses and problems making them work.
