having been up in the helmsley/york area today.
it might be of intrest to those sotherners who normally go to helmsley via york A64 etc, to the FYP (those too frit to go via thirsk up sutton bank)
that from the 14th - 18th the royal ascot race meeting is held at york race course.
in other words, theres gonna be major, major traffic hold ups around york. especially between the A1 and the A1079 in the mornings and the afternoons of each day. so try and avoid the area.

from kent mate via the a2/m25/m11/a1/a170/a168  did it in 03 and ran out of petrol 12 fuckin miles from the site as all the garages were shut at 2-30am the b'stards

going via chopgate (A1257) is a bit of a bumpy route especially on a rigid trike, and the climb up the hill must be almost as steep as sutton bank IMHO.
I`m guessing you`ll go via the A19, A172, A172 to stokesley then up the A1257 into helmsley. I was up that route on friday whilst working

no point tryin, as its the obvious route, and on a bike you shouldn`t be troubled, unless like today the road was shut due to an accident.
and remember its the royal ascot race meet at york so the A64 will be totally stuffed during the day from tuesday onwards

me I`ll prolly meander up the A19/A64 for the scenic route depending IF I use the bike or trike

I`m gonna be in Helmsley this dinner time, coming outa the northeast (stockton) heading up and along the A1257 towards Malton. So maybe I`ll stop off for lunch in Helmsley town square if theres enough parking space.

Thursday night camping is discouraged

If you do end up camping, you will be sent to the Dance Tent field, and if you want to move over into the Main camping on Friday, you have to pack your tent up properly, not move it set up walking across the gate area.

I think people are beginning to take the p*ss by turning up on Thursday-the whole event doesn't open until Friday morning-as the Council will not have signed it all off as ready to open.

I why should Marshalls have to work on the Thursday too??

Please bear this in mind :p

if peeps are really pushed and want to camp somewhere close on thursday but not on the FYP site there is a proper camping site the robin hood camp site (at slingsby) (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3577) about 5 miles away down the A1257 towards malton. I passed it today and it looks OK.

as for the roads, I`ve been up the A1, A168, A19 towards teeside today and the roads are/where trouble free of roadworks.
as for the A1257 route from teeside (stokesley - Helmsley) the roads ok apart from a little farmers tarmac on the road (cow****) near chopgate as you drop down from claybank, and some temporary traffic lights at the bottom of the BIG hill where they are doing some dry wall repairs, so be carefull hurtling around the tight lefthander that preceeds the climb as you MIGHT find a queue of traffic stood there.HOPEFULLY the traffic lights will have gone by friday

Just bob over to the 100% Biker stall, we'll be there at some stage during the weekend. Also try the Bikersweb stall (not trying to plug it, Pat) as quite a few members go on both sites.
