Pat

I am a worried man, not only because my car tax is due on thursday but someone had slipped a HD Supplement into my 100% this month.

I am worried because it might be the start of the Harleyisation of 100%....YOU KNOW THE THING:

1. The Harley Supplement - Innocent by it's appearance, the Harley supplement serves only to provide a little 'plethera' of information on this much admired brand. It is harmless and poses no threat to man nor beast, but like the Lessor Spotted Spainly Legged Caterpillar of mid Africa, cocoons and is reborn into something equally wonderful but in a different guise.

2. Enter the Harley Section - Pages 38-43 of 100%, dedicated simply to this popular heritage.

3. Then BANG it's 100% HARLEY before you know it!

Don't think I have any issues with HD's, as with most manufacturers, I like some of their stuff and some I don't:- but it cannot be denied, there is a stigma attached to the HD - I have heard it said many times that people aspire to own a Harley, maybe some do.

Trouble is they have this habbit of being perceived as the ultimate by their loyal following and are probably responsible for 75% of the top 'BIG BUCKS BUILDS'.

Thats nice, it really is but I love 100% because it doesn't seem to have any preferences towards Yam's, Honda, HD, OMZ or lambretta - Trike Bike or salty pike and thats the way forward I reckon.

Cheers

Jay

(having read this back, it seemed to make more sense in my head)

horses for courses, I'd like to see more Harleys in 100% biker! Why not, they're a motorcycle are they not? I don't know how you could have a custom bike mag and ignore that particular brand of bike... they are THE custom after all, lets face it most other makes of factory customs are little more than copies.

actually hopefully I'll see my bike in the mag someday... it's not finished yet I have a few more changes I want to make ;)

yes ,but when you go to a bike gig, and 80% of the rides there are hogs, it seams that there is an invasion of nothing but hogs......I do inspire to having a nice pan one day, but thats because i no longer want reliability or speed, ive calmed my right hand right down now...so im ready for a "Hardley Doesanything"

No there aren't. 80% are Jap bikes at every rally I go to. You must only attend HOG Meets.

Harleys are like any other motorbike, they are a machine with no emotions etc, theres nothing wrong with them. The only slight problem i do see is not with Harleys, its their owners and the snobbery. I couldnt give a **** what people ride, how they dress (apart from leather chaps and the bloody confederate flag types, were British not bloody americans). A bikes a bikes a bike at the end of the day, its some of the owners that shouldnt be allowed :D

I didn't think I was getting my point across.

I don't dislike Harley Davidsons but It seems to me that the majority of those featured in custom mags are BIG money projects.

That in itself is not a problem either, just that I like to see how people without ££££'s coming out of every orifice are able to create something special through ingenuity.

I'm with you Jay. Anybody with loads'a'money can produce a show winning bike. It's the ones built with loads of ingenuity on a shoestring budget that I admire.

Ok granted, it takes the wind out of my sails a little when I look at some of the dedicated Harley mags I could never afford to build a bike like that, but I also wouldn't really want to. I lost out at getting a trophy at a rally recently (one of the guys from the club said I was a close second) because of a bucket of money errr... well essentially it was a softail with the entire zodiac catalogue thrown at it, it was standing the guy over £16k and it was an older 1340 evo honestly my bike was much more modified as things had to be engineered to fit it and not just bolted on but I have to accept that at most rallies that a tarts handbag of a harley will beat me in the best Harley class (lol perhaps it my jap parts that go against me ;) ).

It is a shame that more Harley riders don't go for more 'basic' chops but so it life and generally those that buy harleys have more money than sense, my bike I think it a nice example, I have a few things I still want to do, such as a big bore kit to take it up to 1550cc and a nice paint job but these things just happen as I can afford to, so they take time, the bike is already standing me about £9k but I see fairly boring standardish models of the same year selling for almost that so I can live with that, lol and only another 5 years to go on my original loan

I must get my finger out and stick that nice mikuni carb on it someday soon ;)
