A simple one from me this time (I hope - eh MD?)
I've currently got the original mounting points for the GT sidepanels on the frame.
I've just had some new sidepanels made up in sheet steel (either that or magnetic aluminium - as ally was what B&Q had marked it up as :D )
On Mrs R's GT, the original lugs have been ripped off with a grinder and some new brackets have been welded on to take four allen bolts - which is a big pain in the backside when you've got to undo them all to take the seat off :(
I'm about to drill the holes in the sidepanels and was wondering if I should keep the original mounting points or have Topper's dad make new ones up and weld them on?
Also, is there an alternative to using allen bolts to keep the panels in place - is there some kind of speedy fastener that will hold them as secure?

try searching for the dzus (spelling) fastners, think that about 1/4 turn jobbys.
but all depends on whats behind them, I would personally go for the cap head bolts or similar as on my chops I fit the circuit breakers and other electrickery behind the side panels, wouldnt want to make it too easy for scrotes to access that gear

that sort of thing
they usually availble from bike shops etc, some of the tupperware boys use them to remove the fairings etc a bit quicker
(i just remove them and leave them off :) )

Easiest access/cheapest is zip clips on a ratty bike.pocket full of 'em and a blade, jobs kind of a good un.
If bike tidy I'd opt for button head sockets in s/s.Poss use security type to keep chav scum at bay!! :D
I love Gt750 such good horses for so little dosh.I admit they look like a cows arse standard though.

damn, that site's confusing for this yorkie... any idea what size they are widthways?
I've managed to sort me'sen out yesterday though did have almost have a bit of a clanger moment when I measured up the original holes on the cardboard template I made. I was going to use the four original sidepanel holes but I found out that one of the holes on the right and side was higher than its equivalent on the left - also if I had have used that hole, there would have been only one bolt holding the panel in place at the bottom.
so I improvised...
I've drilled four bolt holes, one in each corner of each panel. Three will be bolted in and when I get chance, I will have another bracket made up on the frame for the one in the bottom right corner where there isn't a bracket at the mo'. In the meantime, I will just use a cabletie through that hole to the frame. The paint won't be knocked by the cableties as I'm using grommets all in all the holes.
It's good this, I use this forum as a sounding board & brain aid and it seems to work!
