Just about to apply for MSVA for my XJ900 Diversion trike.
Reading through the form (link below) there is a question about axle weights, gross weight and train weight. (Q.14)

Says info should be available from manufacturer's data plate, the owners manual or from the manufacturer. If design weights unavailable please supply a weighbridge ticket displaying weights.

Diversion manual gives bike weight as 265Kg.

Do i need to fill this info in for bike engined trike?
Where or how could i get or calculate these weights?
Would i get away with a guesstimate.
Help please.

you could always find a weighbridge that has a dynamic weigh scale (its a narrow plate that weighs 1 axil / pair of wheels at a time, and do it that way.
I wonder if you could even get a couple of bathroom scales.
but I agree as someone has said before, its the whole weight that counts IMHO.

Hi All,

Unless your trike is going to be classed as a goods vehicle the only weight you need for the form is the unladen weight. This is the weight of the vehicle in running order (oil, coolant, tools etc) but not fuel.

As has been mentioned a weghbridge can give you the info you need. When on test our guys will weigh the axles and add the weight of any missing fuel (to make up a full tanks worth) as we use "mass in running order" for the power to weight ratio and gross calculated weight (adding 75kg per seat) to check brake efficiency and tyre rating. Ther are two versions of the MSVA1 application form sculling about  one dated June 2003 and the one I updated in Jan 2004. The newer version clarifies the weight declaration requirement. (I have been trying to get DVLA and our stations to bin the old ones but they still keep turning up).

Hope this helps and I hope the test goes well :) .

Cheers

Chris
