Does anyone know of a GOOD bike service place in Yorkshire-ish..that works on old Harleys.. e.g. wd45 flatheads..its a six volt system, and needs an electronic ignition conversion system fitting to get rid of the points that are on it now, or even converting to 12 volt..and needs the old Su sorting out, and getting to run as it should..?
Anyone? If not in Yorkshire, do you know of anyone anywhere that is GOOD and could do this?
Thank-eee-kindly..
:D

think you've answered this before.
are you using a hif su carb (great big chunky thing all in one) or the older type with a seperate fuel bowl on the side?

HI mate...
It is an old mini carb that has a seperate float bowl on the left hand side as you look at it from the filter side.( if you can followthat!!) :D

su's are known for wearing the jet to an egg shape as the slide needle will sometimes rub against it, wears the needle also. otherwise they reliable enough.
if it's had a lot of use they can suck air past the throttle shaft bushes.

first thing i would do is to find out what needle other su users are using in the same application.

is it an 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" or larger?

fayji will know he's got a hd :D

Hi XJtriker. I know Kev, and yes he is very good... Got the number of someone in Donny first tho, will try him, hes also good I hear.. Thanks for that anyway mate...

Hi Animal... Not sure if the su is set up correctly.. Backfires, and just runs badly... Hard to start as well... Bought an Amal for it, but after I got it, decided to keep the su.. It just needs to be set up right for the bike I think... and while they are a fairly simple carb, they can be a bugger to get spot on.. So looking for someone to check the full set up on the bike, i.e. carb, ignitions etc... and get it to run as a good ol flathead should...
Cheers
