Interesting article here on France laying 1000kms of Solar roads. I have read a few articles and seen no mention on the safety implications for bikes. I have emailed Wattway/Colas to ask if tests involving bikes have been carried out:

Be interesting to see how well the slip resistant surface lasts and how well it works when wet. Interesting that it's supposed to create FREE power for millions, yet they still want to increase vehicle tax to pay for it. Friggin' highwaymen :rolleyes:

On the plus side, at least it's being trialled ower yonder, so our idiot government don't have to invest until it's been proved positive to be shite.;)

All the tests that have been conducted on our product Wattway were aiming an “all-vehicle” safety, once installed on a road, including motorcycles.

The test include fire resistance, grip test, climate test etc.

They test it for fire resistance but how will it last with traffic running over it for years on end

Anyone remember the early non slip surfaces they put down on the approach to traffic lights etc that stuff was great in the dry and wet but fucking lethal with a bit of frost about

They don't maintain the roads properly now how the hell will they manage with this stuff on top

Honestly it does sound like a good idea to me it would make far more sense to put it on pavements not on the roads

my mum worked on some of the early resins used to hold landing lights into Gatwick airport runway - to simulate 10 years of weather then had to move the samples between oven & freezer every 4 hours for a month. I am sure that that a runway light gets less stress than a main road - if it is that good it will be better than the tarmac it is replacing given how badly most of the roads around me seem to last after resurfacing
