I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm getting desperate now......so if anyone else has gone through this and can give me any advice I would be gratefull
I have just moved into West Yorkshire with my 15 year old son because of employment
The nearest school to us is mainly to cater for the ethnic students from Bradford. Official government figures say that 80% of the student don't use English as their main language.(taken from the most recent OFSTED report)
Because of this teaching standards are very low as they spend most of their time trying to explain to students that don't understand the language rather than teaching the subject matter.
The school attainments at GCSE level are half what an average school is.
There has been a lot of "racial" bullying at this school against the minority white children.
My son scored above average, not only for his school, but nationally as well in the SATs tests last year, and has been working with Sheffield university on their early outreach as he has been identified as University material.
Last week we went to an appeal hearing to get him into a school which is used by the local children. This school is nothing special, just a normal average comprehensive,so we wasn't trying to get him into some elite school.
We have received confirmation this weekend that the appeal went against us and it is binding.
Surely we are not expecting too much for him to receive an "average" education for an above average student, and that he can at least understand what the other children are saying.
Surely in this day and age it is not expecting too much to get a child into a school,in our own country, with students of similar abilities, language and cultures?

only thing i can suggest is a letter to your MP/Councillor/Community Councillor
they may get results where you cant

claim racial discrimination, as you ARE the minority, if it works for them, then the door should swing both ways

I think the letter to an MP etc is a good idea...
Also, you could try a national or local newspaper (nationals might be more sympathetic given the area you live in - but you never know - must be some around and the media attention wouldn't hurt if you don't mind it).
How about a local radio station?
Just an idea or two - ya never know!
You've already got the attention of... how many users on 100%?... get it on other forums too...nationwide coverage for free!

first off i'd contact the uni and explain to them about the new schools lower than average acievement record and see what they recomend, see if your local colledge do gcse evening classes book him into them if poss, another thing to try is elective home education, basically you educate the child at home, however you get absolutely no support from the authorities, check to see if the uni are in favour of this type of education as im sure they will be willing to help subject wise hope it pans out for you

Believe me i know how you feel but for the sake of your son dont play the race card and dont confront the school as all that will happen is your son will cop the flak, had several years of it with my daughter, basically she was getting picked on by the staff because she was my lads sister and i went in there and laid down the law:( ,it got so bad i ended up educating her at home which worked for us, the only down side is she has to go to college to do her gcse's next year but as she going there anyway it's ok

I fully understand your position being in a similar one myself last year joing two families together, if you know what i mean, it wasnt due to race but sibling already being in the school. school were honest said it wasnt up to them to bend the rules so went to see LEA said id need to to go apeal which you have done, i was annoyed how long the beauracrats were going to take so said to the guy ok my daughter is on waiting list what do i need to do to move her up it for the school of choice, he said move closer, i said no prob ill go rent a flat 100yards from school now , contacted council leader and education authority bosses , baisically i made it so obvious that i was an awkward fooker and wouldnt be beaten they told school to take her with no appeal. it seems to be in goverment the more nosie you make and higher up ladder you go rocking boats , the minions will back away rather than have grief. i coppied every letter to all the high ups in local council and education department, i heard later that guy dealing with schools ahd never had so many phone calls from his bosses asking why they were getting trouble about school a placing. I know it is the wrong way to have to approach things, but it worked for me.
as for the way the pc brigarde are going in schools and work, well its bollocks if the kids cant speak english, they should learn before wasting valuable class room time in subject classes. but what is happening to you is predjuice so dont make fuss at school go over them to local goverment, politicians dont like bad press so may bend rules, its black mail and bribary but has been known to work. failing that what about the private sector alot of money but for the sake of say 3 terms well worth the money, and im sure the private sector would be glad to take on a bright kid and be very discretely sympathetic to your problem. he can then go to college or another school for sixth form where places maybe eaiser.

And why shouldn't WE play the race card? Every other fcucker does (and it works for them!)...
Just who is in the minority now? Makes me sick...
I've said this before and I'll say it again (as a teacher by trade)...I have absolutely nothing against inclusion and equality...but NOT at the exclusion and unequality of anyone else!

the reason i said dont play the race card is it get held against the poor kid at school not the parent, i raised an issue at my daughters school, and it was she who was labeled racist by the staff, i know its not right but when the staff pick on a kid theres nowt you can do :(
