Thanks for all your good wishes, it wasnt a cold, it is a chest infection, which leads me on to my next point.... I'm trying to give up smokin, I'm really fed up with coughing all the time, feeling really **** a lot of the time too, so I've stopped after 32 years smoking........its been about 18 hours now, I have the patches but I'm beginning to get REALLY twitchy now.
Any tips would be great.

I once heard Steve Tyler say on virgin radio that smack helped him pack up smoking......dont suppose that helps, and a bit drastic

5 of me mates have all been to a Hypnotist and have all stopped smoking the longest being just over a year ago and the last one about 7 months none of them have wanted a ciggie since...what all of them agreed on...it was like something was missing for a few days but none of them had any cravings.
Gonna try it meself as I've tried patches, gum and other bits you can buy in the shops.
Cost them £140 and it's free if you need to go back. ;)

Well, very sorry Pat....(for once) I can't offer an opinion or have any advice. Never smoked , cos I'm a bit wheezy and chesty without it anyway.
The Mrs. stopped from 40 a day when she met me ( musta been the shock!) and my Ma' and Pa' stopped about 20 years ago... but all of them just went "cold turkey".
See , I been telling you all along - I truly am no use at all!

It's not easy, generally speaking screaming and writhing helps as does drinking rocket fuel coffee and eating for 10 :) It sounds really naff and I can't possibly imagine you doing it  but cross stitch really helps - in front of the telly. It is strangely addictive and keeps your hands occupied, not that I've ever done it no sir!!!!! :)

if you can empty an ashtray into a jam jar and half fill with water,,,,when u fancy a fag unscrew n sniff,,,,,ewwwwww,,,,heard this about ten years ago and know a few ppl it has worked for
also cut up lots of nibbles,,,celery, carrotts and such and when u feel the urge just nibble on em,,,,
i tried it once,,,and went through pounds and pounds of carrotts,,,,sex and sleeping helps too,,,,, :D

I kept 1 or 2 ciggies in my top drawer, just as i felt i wanted one, I'd look in the drawer and say no. Sounds **** but it does feel good turning down a ciggy and telling it to fuck off. Also If you do break and NEED ONE!!! (you shouldn't though.) You can have one, not buy a pack for just one then "I've spent money on all these it's a shame to see em go to waste." smoke the rest and start again.

The Nicorette Inhalators worked for me when I gave up 6 years ago. The secret with them is to not use them until you are absolutely desparate then have a toke on one. If you try one though be very cautious with the first draw as the menthol will close your throat in half a nanosecond.
I managed to give up the inhalator less than a month and a half after the ciggies and didn't have a single draw on a cig for five years. Then my best friend died and stupidly I thought a cig would help..............and now I am back to where I was. I still have the inhalator and will try again my my head is right.

The doctor told me to give up cigs, and when i get the urge to have one just think about something else or do something to take your mind off the urge as the craving passes very quickly.
trouble is find a woman who wants to have sex forty times a day! :D :D

Good to see you back Pat! I've got a foolproof method of giving up smoking - have a heart attack! Well, it worked for me  , haven't smoked tobacco since I had mine! However it's not a method I would recommend, but maybe just the thought that if you don't give it up you, too, could end up in intensive care full of tubes and with wires connected all over you is hopefully enough to maintain your resolve. Stick with it Pat, and good luck :D .

Used willpower (and severe lack of dosh).Took me three days of climbing the walls, but I've been off smokes over 20 years now.It does get better. It helps if your mates respect your wishes and don't offer you when they crash the ash,I was lucky, hope you are too. You've got my support.

Good luck Pat, I gave up smoking 56 years ago and haven't looked back. Took my Dads advice " The easiest way to stop smoking is to never start". Been lucky, I suppose, as I never conformed to what others did so never got sucked in by peer pressure.
I don't smoke Pat, so I don't know if it's hard to give up or not!
But I don't fancy the thought of not drinking anymore, so reckon you must be doing well!

well done for getting this far Pat.I gave up 4 years ago after smoking for 28 years so iI know the score. The secret to it is to treat giving up smoking like being in a revolving door,if you do give in to your cravings, dont panic, just start over again.
join a stop smoking class, they are naff I know but they work, and if you start smoking again they will give you a referal for your doctor to prescribe zyban tablets if you want them, thats what I took, they totally take away your body's craving and desire to smoke, leaving you free to change your habits.ignore the doom merchants who preach that some people have had bad reactions to zyban, people have reactions to asprin, but that doesn't mean asprin is unsafe, anyway your doc will do checks before prescribing it.
Keep it up and good luck. :)

Thanks for all the support, day 8 now! I feel really good about it, just gotta try to cut down the patches now.... yeah I know I'm supposed to stay on the for weeks but I am too bloody tight for that! :D
I've bought another weeks supply, but the plan is to take it off late afternoon this week, as evenings are not my 'difficult' times, then next week I'll drop to the low strenght(5m) patches and see how I cope with them.
Not content with that I'm on a diet too!! :D
Bloody sweetner in my tea.... tastes like ****e, that will take more getting used to than no fags! Not only can I not have a fag with my tea, but the tea tastes foul as well now..... I need sugar!!!!
Blimey Pat, are you going for the full health overhaul?
Can we expect to see you at rallies donning a shell-suit and jogging around the tents? :D
Fair play, I was gonna say you got bigger balls than me, but that aint too much of a compliment in this weather I can tell ya!
