The guy who MOT'd the trike in question is a bit of a stickler for the rules but agreed to phone the ministry for advice anyway when challenged that the trike should have passed.

He has now passed the trike as it is a 1500 wing and has a seperate reverse, this is considered adequate as a parking brake. (This is what the misistry said) He also said that if it is a bike based trike, leaving the centre stand in place could also pass the trike if no other parking brake is fitted, as in theory, the trike could be lifted onto the stand and a brake would not be required.

The upshot of the coversations is that it is a very grey area on trikes built before MSVA testing was required. It all depends on how much your MOT tester knows his stuff.

Thanks for everyones help.
