Twenty first of February, I go to the local DVLA office and hand over the relevant paperwork for the trike...MOT, Insurance and receipts etc., and pay for six months tax. The trike is booked in for inspection on March 4th.
March 4th arrives, I tow the trike in for inspection (which it passes, no probs). So it's all road legal. Except it isn't 'cos I haven't got a tax disc or any other of my docs back yet, so the trike's sitting gleaming in the garage, and I'm as frustrated as fuck!
Anyone know how long it usually takes for a "local" DVLA centre to return docs and tax disc? The website's no bloody use, and when I ring, it automatically transfers my call to Swansea, FFS!

I bet I hate them more than you.
We can't ring the buggers either and I work for a sister agency at the Dft
But don't worry the local offices are gonna be closed and sold off so that's problem solved then innit.

That is bad news about the local office's, as the staff at the Cardiff one are really good, and I have never had any hassle with them.

When you went in did they say "its now taxed".
How far away is the office.....could you pop in. I am hoping they gave you some sort of ref number that they can check ?
When I tax online I still go out even though it takes 5 days for the disc to come through the post. If the police put my number through it comes up as taxed. I know you can be fined for none display....but they are a little more leniant as they have you on computer.
If you have MOT , Insurance and TAX......go out :D

Drive the bloody thing, you've paid for it, it's a case of Tax applied for, I have never displayed a tax disk on a motorbike and wouldn't on a trike because there is nowhere to display it where it can't be nicked..If you get pulled say it is at home, and they can check with the DVLA to see if it is taxed and if they want you will present it to the local police station...
Chances of them pulling you over for not displaying are pretty remote, I did 1100 miles round Wales and had two cops parked next to me at the Ponderosa cafe with no tax disk on the bike, I was also pulled on the motorway at Port Talbot by cops in a police car with no tax disk on display and again on a different bike at Merthyr and none of them mentioned the missing tax disk..

I forgot to mention that although the tax was paid for on the 21st. Feb, I received a renewal reminder on Monday 7th. March! So it wouldn't be down as taxed with the plod! Hence my reluctance to take her out......Update.....The MOT cert was returned today, no tax disc though!
Fair enough the new V5 takes four weeks and is issued from Swansea, and the insurance I can print off on my computer. But the tax was paid for on the twenty first of Feb!
Anyhoo, I ring the local office, the call gets transferred to Swansea, I tell them what's happened, I get put on hold, then tell a bloke in Cardiff the tale all over again.
"You sure that's all there is in the envelope"? He says. So I check again.
"That's it " I say, "No covering letter, tax disc or nowt, just the MOT cert"!
"Strange" He Says.
"I'll ring them, and they'll call you within two hours"
"OK" Says I. So here I am waiting......

what iv done in the past to get anywhere with dvla is to email the local office and if that dont work then i email the next closest office to the town or city im in they then ring them and kick up a stink and that has worked. if you email them and ask for them to ring you back they normally do .
