got my 93 750 nighthawk chop on the road recently after passing my test and wondered if the original 70's spoked wheels would be an easy(ish) mod? or if any other wheels are inter changeable enough to swop with my bike without burning out my brain too much.... would prefer a fatter back wheel but not holding out tooo much hope:p

any wheel will fit but getting it to line up clear the frame or sprockets inline is another issue
the honda 750, 550,500,400 four spoke wheels should drop straight in altho you may have to change the wheel bearings to suit your bolt.
as for bigger wheel dunno what size u currently have but u can lace a 500 x 16 on any of teh wheels mentioned above or maybe a bigger rim - but u would have to check your clearences.

If its a wider rear you are after then you could go the way I have with my VN and get a 6" TL1000 rear wheel and fit a 200 section tyre . Wasn't the easiest convertion but well worth it . I know its not spoked as you said but wide rear spoked wheels are hard to come by unles custom Harley style but then cost a mint . ZX12 rear wheels ar also 6" and run 200 tyre . Depends how wide you can go without having to modify the swing arm ??
I'd just try and work the width you can fit first then look for wheels to fit , bearings and spacer can be changed easily enough .

I've got an old Honda VT700 Shadow and somebody fitted a 170 tyre instead of the normal 140..I don't know how they survived, the tyre is rubbing against the drive shaft..
Might be a good idea to measure up first they don't leave a lot of clearance and you don't want a blowout as you lean into a corner..

cheers for the advise all, just trying to tidy the old girl up a bit for the summer.
I kinda noticed everything with the custom harley mark has a pocket rape attached.
cheers creature was looking at sourcing an old cb wheel off my mate(also heard that old gsx wheels would be a straight swop too not too sure on that though..)
Im playing with the chain and rear fender at present trying to make them play along without fucking each other up - some real finite wheel alignment seems to be needed .. or the old mole grips may have to be used to remould the fender... good job im getting the whole thing resprayed :P
ive just got the standard wheels on at the min with standard tyres - will try and get fatter ones see if that takes my appeal :D

A few pointers that might well be irrelevant, I've a few 550 sohc bikes and amoungst the stuff I have for them is a 15/600 (I think I'm right on that but it's at the back of the shed) rear tyre / wheel. Fits ok in the garage but on the road I noticed that despote a close but deffinate gap of 5 mm from the brake torque arm on a clod tyre at rest once moving the tyre was rubbing. Another thing is I'm pretty sure having fitted 650 comstars to a 550 is that the disks on the 650 were futher appart / futher offset and a slightly different diameter. Not insurmountable but it means either setting the bike up for 1 or the other and going back to std will involve futher work. For myself I prefer for that reason to keep stuff reasonably std, makes parts ordering easyer and I can also keep a full set of spare wheels on the shelf so a puncture can be sorted with a very quick phonecall home for the spare to come out to me rather that mess around trying to patch stuff at the roadside or await recovery or that last minuite panic when you realise your tyre has gone bald when you wern't looking and the new ones gonna take a week to arrive. Other thing is fat tyres suck if the road gets even a bit icy - my rebel has a silly fat rear end and sucks in winter, conversly my 550 and bmw r80 both wear skinny 400 section rear rubber and are rock solid on snow and icy roads.

cheers for that mate, good advice since I'im probably gonna use the chop all year round... anyone know how to paint over chrome? really fancy blacking it all out before next winter (sorry to say but i kinda like survival/rat bikes :P

you will need approx 10mm gap to make sure theres enough expansion room - this should stop any rubbing :)
