Hi,
When I cold start my GT, the engine seems to rev to a zillion rpm. Hardly doing it any good. I have a sneaking feeling that I may have a hole in one or more diaphragms, so the slider(s) just shoot straight up. The carbs want balancing.
As I am a tight arse, I was wondering if diaphrams from the old Stromberg could be used, provided the centre boss on the slider can be taken off. They did them in 1¼, 1½, 1¾ sizes. Any ideas please?.
Greg
Mine does the same so I just ease the choke back off till it stops.

carb mounting rubbers either loose or come away from the metal mount...unfortunately you have to remove the carbs to tighten them.

Grav,
I never had that with the 750- just that miss off tickover. I suppose you will want your money back now. :D:D
Nah, I cured the miss fire. :D
51,000 miles and still going strong, Gregg. I even cleaned it the other day.:D

Nothing wrong with carb inlet tubes, John--all tight and look in great condition.
No one came back with encouragement for the diaphragm replacement idea using Stromberg rubbers. Some little oriental guy must have made the sliders, then put the diaphram rubbers on after, clamping it down with an ally ring. It got put on, so must come off, (perhaps, lol.).
I know that as soon as I remove the screws and take off the tops of the carbs, the old diaphragms will balloon out like a nuclear explosion, mushrooming out in a highly successful bid to stop me getting the bastard(s) back in untwisted. :D

Can't see the stromburg diaphragms working on bike carbs, and I am a bodging bastard, I like fitting things where they weren't meant to go.
God why did I write that on this site.
I think the hole in the middle of a stromburg diaphragm may be bigger than the slider in most bike carbs.
You can guess how I found this out. :D
