sugar and bag in.
Let it stew for 5 mins.
then tiny drop of Milk. ( I like my tea and coffee same way I like my women- dark , strong and just a little sweet)

Never heard the saying " Milk before sugar and you're bound to lose your lover"

Polly put the kettle on.............

gypsy knows this one - finally lmao

anyway - Tea has to be infused, ie made with boiling water, so if you put milk in first the water is cooled as it hits the tea and therefore not boiling

so milk in last please

but

coffee gets scalded by boiling water and it spoils the taste so milk in first to cool the water slightly

hot chocolate - always make with full milk (no water) which is brought until 'just' boiling (probably 98oC lmao) then add powder and contiune to heat and stir until powder is dissolved

I tell ya - it's true - ask any herbalist ;)

so

who's got the kettle on???

I quite fancy hot chocolate now :)

i believe the milk first thing was because china/porcelin at the time could break if hot water was poured into it, hense milk first.

i only drink earl grey one sugar no milk, the way captain picard likes it :D

dunno bought that dracken, but peeps used to use tea pots so the tea infused before it got anywhere near a cup

I reckon this is a modern day problem brought on by the invention of tea bags

only got 77% cos I put 'stir the tea' after 'let it stand'

but that one threw me cos my granny never stirred the tea as she said it would 'stir trouble'

very superstitious she was :o

it all depends if you want to make tea the traditional way,,,,
in which case dracken is completely correct
the tea goees in a pot ,,,the milk goes in the cup then the tea is poured in and sugar afterwards.

these days its a tea-bag so the best way is sugar and hot water on the bag and milk after...

but the 'correct way' is deffo milk first and a tea pot...honest ,,i studied etiquette :)

Doro
16-02-2005, 02:37 PM
yeah tecco

but I think we're talking about tea in a mug,

I only mentioned teapots cos of what dracken said about bone china cups

That's true i think. If you were rich you could afford good china, so you could put the milk in last no worries. Sorta a sign of wealth.
Anyway the best way is Teabag, boiling water poured directly onto the teabag, so as to make it diffuse more, three good squeezes on the side with a teaspoon, teabag out, Sugar in (water's still hot so it dissolves faster) THEN and only then. milk.

at work we have disposable cups which have in them a tea bag with powdered milk in them already so all you have to do is stick it under the geyser and open the tap. you can add suger if and when you want.

these are also handy when you go to rallys

Crofty got it right, its very important how you pour the water on the teabag, directly on to the bag, and slowly, to give it more chance to brew. Let it brew good and strong before squeezing the bag and taking it out, then add LOTS of milk and a spoonful of sugar.

I have terrible trouble gettin folks tio understand that I like my tea STRONG but with lots of milk - usually just get weak tea. I really hate it when the only thing there's enuff of is water.....
