My mate has just bought a CB400 custom (superdream type thing) for his lad when he gets back from Canada in a few weeks and we have just gone up to sort it out. Unfortunately we have found that either the big ends or the little ends have gone. We need another motor.

Anyone got one hanging about that is not knocking its danglies off?

I live in Stoke so anywhere within a 50 mile radius would be ok for us to pick up but will consider motors further away for the right engine (yeah right as if we're gonna find a mint 5K mile example!!).

Cheers.

I have a top end off one thats missing one rocker shaft, might still have the crank somewhere (I'll promise nothing on that, very likely in the scrap!) plus another lump that's total unknown sat in the shed. Scrappies in Prees, Shropshire has a few superdreams, they'd want £40 for a unknown/ broken engine at a geuss. They might have something better too.

The top end and cams look ok, no lips on the edge or owt.

You said you had a complete engine that is unknown? I know the clue is in the previous statement but, does it turn over?

Cheers

400 dreamer engines suffer from big end failure , I had a few years ago and all the engines I found to replace the first blown one had signs of wear to at least one of the big ends , If I remember correctly it was usually the lefthand side one more so . According to the local breaker at the time it was common on the 400 , something to do with the oil ways or something ?? I used a 250 motor in mine for awhile before buying a bandit :)

I'll ask him mate but i think he just wants the engine, he wants to keep the cruiser/custom style.

I'll let you know.

Thanks.

long run having a spare bike may be cheaper, just swap motors if the styling is inportant. As for my lump, it's probably got top end corrosion to the bores by now, bought it as part of a job lot of spares after storing it and not finding a buyer for near on 10 years it got shunted out of the dry shed and into a less dry one in favour of somehing I might actually use. It did turn over but never tried starting it, came with plugs missing which was fine whilst in shed with rags in to keep dust out but as I say, it's been in the leaky shed a while now, next stop weigh in, once seperated into alloy and heavy steel. A shame but no one wants it enough to collect. I'm at a Madness gig in Birmingham 10/11th December if you wanted to make an offer on the lot or any parts, it might make it into the boot, but baby stuff takes priority space wise.

Thats a later deluxe model if he wants to know. You can tell by the flip up end to tail piece and also no kick start - earlier ones (mine was t-reg) had kick and electric and a thinner tailpiece which means different rack fitments.

Another thing to check on any superdream is the bottom left of tank, water collects there and rots its way out of the tank.
