just a lil pic of my latest budget build
far from finished, still got the seat rails that are structural, to be put in, bent them up this afternoon, got them tacked in position, just want to check them tomoro a bit better
about £650 in this so far, many other parts that arent in thepics are already in the garage, full finished build should owe me about £1500.
my hope/dream is to have it in a show or 3 next year.
hoping to have it done and MSVA about march april next year.

gtr or eliminator motor?
looking good

GTR1000
the exhausts and the removable front lower frame section fill in the rather large void under the engine, and then theres the exhaust, oil cooler and rad to go in front of the engine, that helps to fill the gap behind the front wheel
hopefully get some bracing in place around the seat rails tonight, top yoke should be back with me at end of week, so then I can make the bars and work out the tank mounting properly.

Looking good. Nicely engineered rear end.

lookin good m8..:)
cheers mate and Im trying to save up hard to afford a nice paint job on the tank and rear muddies, wonder who might be able to do that?
LOL
still so much to do on it, but its strange, even the wife keeps asking me why am I so happy, and smiling all the sudden :)
she thinks its the trike, actually its the woman next door PMSL LOL

tacked in place, but pretty happy with it so far. deffo improves the lines and will give the extra strength to the frame.

your shocks might just clash with the half shafts.........other than that it has lovely lines
devon-tony
27-10-2010, 01:44 PM
YAY top yoke is back, far from finished, but just went and collected it so I can get on with making the bars etc and worry about getting it re profiled later when everything else is away being powdercoated etc
also finished the bits of solid bar that had to be milled and drilled etc to make the front section removeable, so I can get that tubing bent and sorted now.
hopefully found a pair of AVO shocks, £50, more than I wanted to spend, but cheaper than most 2nd hand pairs I have seen
plan tonight is to cut the exhausts back a bit at the very end, get the fron section fitted to the engine, then work on the tubing from the centrepost, round to the front of the engine, then a whole new world of work opens up, can sort out foot control and placement, make the handlebars, so I can then sort out tank mounting etc etc
devon-tony
08-11-2010, 12:50 PM
not a lot of progress, can only work on it saturday mornings now, so its going to be very slow going :(
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/tony-devon/6-11-102.jpg
starting to take shape a bit better, still got heaps to do, but at least I feel like its actually a trike now, not a pile of bits
devon-tony
01-12-2010, 08:27 AM
woohoo
tanks maounted, foot controls should be sorted this weekend, and a pair of avo adjustable coilovers with springs arrived yesterday, get the mounts fabbed today, and hopefully get them fitted this weekend also
got oil lines on the way, and rear brake master, so that gives me a few things to play with, got no oil cooler, but plan it to just bypass it for now, and see if the engine works
devon-tony
06-01-2011, 12:18 PM
oh well, nowt done for some time, stupid festive season interupted me, and also a complete lack of cash
sold my last RC model and already blown most of the money LOL
forwards are now finished, all stainless, will get them vapour blasted as I dont want anything polished on this build, got rosejoints for the ends, just working on the linkages in the middle to join it all together
shocks are mounted, springs are about right possibly a tad too soft, but deffo too short, full preload required to get ride height, so another used set been found £25 the pair delivered, 240lb instead of current 200lb, and 9" instead of 8"
front part of the prop is modified, yet to see if its all going to work
bought a brand new 10 row oil cooler, £25 well pleased, a dirty tatty second hand one wouldnt look as good and most were just as expensive if not more
also en-route to me are rear mudguards, matching master cylinders for the handlebars, 90 degree 1/2" BSP adaptors for the oil cooler, various odds and sods required for mounting things etc
some engine parts from cradley kawasaki, gasket and shim etc, a great company to deal with
hoping to be able to order some stainless mandrel bends for the exhaust system, ojzengineering, great price, great website but dont reply to emails LOL
I made real good progress quite quickly, but now its at that slow stage, all the little mounts and brackets to fit things together
Looking forward to seeing the finished thing! :)
devon-tony
06-01-2011, 11:45 PM
yeah no one more than me LOL
today I ordered the stainless tubing for the exhaust system, lots of goodies to arrive in the coming week or so
oh and if its good enough I will be keeping it most certainly until it gets photographed for a magazine, unlike the last 2 or so LOL
devon-tony
07-01-2011, 02:03 PM
well the mudguards arrived today, well packed, well made if a bit on the thin side in my opinion
but all this is irrellevant as I hate them LOL, too wide, and to follow the tyre the tyre would have to be about 30"+ dia
back to plan B where I take the one large one I have, cut it up and make 2 trike mudguards, and that one only cost £1 at car boot, as opposed to the £28 I just paid for the others
oh well, nothing in life is simple is it, at least thats one more thing to go on the spec sheet, mudguards by owner LOL
devon-tony
09-01-2011, 04:26 PM
oh well looks like I spoke too soon
this will likely be going up on ebay this week, no reserve, gone to highest bidder, with all tools, welder, everything
been royally screwed by child tax credits people.
had enough thats it for me
less than 4 weeks to find £1500.
Bodge
09-01-2011, 04:45 PM
:eek:Jeez thats a bit harsh, get yourself straight and have another go it'll help keep ya sane.
devon-tony
09-01-2011, 05:13 PM
nah had enough now, last 3 bikes and trike I built all were sold for total bottom dollar just to get money for things that went wrong, this is final straw for me
got to call them back tomoro and if I dont get something sorted with them, then Ive had enough
the pisser is that I just spent £200 on bits for this, total owed now is £950, be lucky to get half that back I reckon, although the welder etc is good gear.
its just like something in my life decides everytime I finish a bike or get close, something goes wrong, lifes never good in the middle, but at least I tick along. Im a big believer in fate and maybe this is something trying to tell me not to bother
there are ways round the child tax credit people, tony......;)
devon-tony
09-01-2011, 10:03 PM
yeah cheers Rob, been having a read up online, not going to give in without a fight, just a bit of everything going wrong, cars gone up the creek, work has turned to shit, and now they think Im diabetic, but at least it will explain the tingling and lose of feeling in 2 of my fingers LOL
it appears that they cant demand full repayment as I still have a valid claim running, they have to deduct it from my payments even though they paying me next to nothing, what they should be paying me, should be knocked off my "debt"
£1496 paid off at £11 per month LOL hopefully I have read the small print correctly, if I have then they can go jump, but until then Im going to be a pain in the arse for them
I requested a full breakdown of how the overpayment occured, you cant just demand money without some proof, well according to them you can
I also discovered that you can declare a crap small income, and so long as you dont go over that amount by more than 25k, they cant take any overpayments for that year, however the following year will be amended! WTF the system is mental
we have total household income of £23k (both working full time), and are awarded £127 per year, our neighbors have been honest with us, shown us paperwork, they have household income of £42k and get £912 per year?
devon-tony
12-01-2011, 02:38 PM
ok so I have calmed down a little :) not such a stressed Eric at the moment, tax credits are demanding near on £1500 back as they say they didnt receive my form back in 2007, so have to repay the years money, taken legal advice and sent them a right shitty letter.
spoke with my good ol Dad, he said whats the point in selling this for £500?? wont pay the bill, so stop ya moaning and go finish it LOL, I love my father.
sitting on my own stewing about it for hours is not the answer.
well hopefully some new pics this weekend if the weather cheers up
I have cut the back end of the seat rails off, didnt like them, bent up some tube and remade them, now the seat is rounded at the back, not just ends of tube, it now looks finished as opposed to having bungs in the ends.
the engine bits turned up from cradley kawasaki, so I can put that back together.
the exhaust tubing is here, so time to work out the routing and get that tacked together.
oil cooler and adaptors arrived, need mounts making
master cylinders for the handlebars are here, so I can get one with them now.
forwards are just being fully welded up as we speak, and the prop adaptor/joiner is being turned also.
petrol tap has arrived.
a rough count up says that Im at about £960 spent thus far. Im still planning on getting it finished for under £1500, going to be very tight, but hey ho.
would have been less but I splashed out £25 on a brand new oil cooler, £28 on some mudguards(that Im not going to use LOL) and quite a few other ill odds and sods, all the £5 and £7 here and there really added up.
Excellent news! :thumbsu:

LOL everyone needs someone in life to just give them a little slap sometimes, and remind them that some things, just dont matter
Me Dad is that man, and my best friend, hell my only friend LOL
his arguement is let them take me to court, offer £1 per week if I lose, I got nothing they can take via bailiffs, hell even the TV in my living room is a tube one :)
so, head out of sand, finger out of arse, and try to get this finished for the summer.
devon-tony
02-02-2011, 09:37 AM
hopefully I might be able to get some pictures of this soon, by the time I get home from work its pitch black, and the weekends its been pissing down :(
anyway, work is still ongoing, lost a lot of time this weekend due to the welder packing up, but managed to repair it :) then ran out of gas
Ive routed and tacked the majority of the exhaust system, just waiting for 1 bend to arrive to join it to the back box under the seat
spent a day faffing about making rear mudguard mounts, something so simple, yet nothing looked right, think I got them sussed now, rear mudguards are ready to be finished, ie sanding and filler etc
last night I bent and cut the seat base from some ally sheet, quite happy with it, now to start looking for some foam and working out the covering of it.
digital speedo arrived, very smart and well impressed, started mounting it to the bars and something just wasnt right, so cut the bars up, moved them about, remade the brace bit, welded them back together in almost identical position, yet this time they look better??
Im moving and remaking the mounts for the petrol tank as Im not totally happy, dont like the front mounting method, it just looks lazy and messy.
hopefully if its not raining Friday afternoon then I will get some pics up on here

any updates?
devon-tony
02-03-2011, 10:36 AM
LOL yeah exhaust system is finished, well its tacked up waiting for strip down
rear brakes are mounted and sorted, handbrake lever, cables, mounts and linkages etc are sorted
speedo is mounted, currently mounting the rad and oil cooler
only downside is it looks like the front end is off to the corner of the garage :( , fukkin gutted to be honest.
but was sold them as zx9r forks, turn out to be zxr400 forks, and they dont like close on 300kg?? of trike on them, blew the new seals, and fluid pissed out like a racehorse
Kajir on here has been a diamond, got a front end that Im trying to raise the money for, otherwise been looking for some fork springs from a bigger bike that I might be able to modify etc, dont give a shit about handling, just want the front end up in the air, not dragging along the tarmac LOL
got about 7 weeks till my target I set, think Im gonna struggle.
will sort some pics this weekend, but not much more to see, its all the lil jobs that take forever

there are alloy bungs to go in the end of the frame tubes, no point fitting them till last moment.
seat is with a local upholsterer, quoted me £50 to foam, shape and then cover with double stitched panels etc, so borrowed the money and just went for it, my atttempt cost me nearly £20 and looked like a tramps hat LOL

I'm loving this thread Tony, bloody top job you doing mate,it's gonna be a belter when it's finished.I wish i was half as talented with fabricating bits as you are:thumbsu:
devon-tony
06-05-2011, 07:31 AM
well the diff is in, that was a struggle and a half, not only is it heavy, but when its freshly painted, and going into an exceedingly tight gap, thats also freshly painted, its a job that needs 3 hands at least LOL
currently in the middle of shortening the shafts, end to end they will be 400mm, so at a guess about 200mm of exposed shaft netween the CV boots
away at a wedding this weekend, really dont want to go, but the promise of free food and the potential of a big fight are just too much to resist LOL
the seat is done, the local upholstery guy has worked wonders and will get pics up next week, couldnt really afford to pay out for it, but a crap seat really ruins a bike or trike, especially when its as big as the one on my trike
because I didnt powdercoat it, I saved some money, however the plan is that IF I keep it, then I will tear it down and have it powdercoated over next winter, but I bet its for sale within a month of completion LOL.
cleaning up the brake calipers, and sorting out the front forks and yokes are the next jobs, the sooner the front end is done the better, then I can roll it out of the garage, have a damn good tidy up and will have some space to work, fed up with climbing over it just to get from one end to the other.
devon-tony
18-06-2011, 01:53 PM
ITS ALIVE!!!!
running on 3 need to strip the carbs again, cant have it running long as no water hoses, but it fires.
wont rev up, but Im expecting the usual problems, went with quite a quiet restrictive system, to keep noise down and hopefully less problems with jetting
but Im now worried that with the K&N filters, its not going to run right, mains are currently 125 standards, got some 150's to bung in once the delivery of silicone hoses parts arrive next week :)
devon-tony
19-06-2011, 10:52 PM
:( had to spend some money recently. Tank sealer from frosts new spark plugs oil and oil filter.
Also a rather large collection of silicone coolant pipes bends and reducers etc. If you need any bitd then well worth looking at mrsilicone on ebay
devon-tony
25-06-2011, 06:46 PM
fired up, warmed up, balanced up and it runs like a dream £31 engine is alive, just hope to god that the gearbox is ok LOL
the latest look
front end is yet to come off for some mods to the yokes, then they need blasting and the bars need finishing, but was so excited to be able to wheel it outside and look at it, I couldnt resist :)

I agree looking good, but doesnt the msva man want handles for a pillion, also id suggest a guard fror the prop shaft.
Goes very fast right next to your leg, hope flares dont come back in to fashion
devon-tony
28-06-2011, 07:18 AM
erm nope, no handgrips required for pillion :)
the propshaft has a rubber boot that covers the drive end, but as a whole, the shaft is well within the frame when its installed, wont be a problem,

ok so a bit of an update
295-50-15 tyres are here, got 1 brand new one, and a part worn for £40.99
the 15" revolution rims are currently on the mill Im told and might even be with me later this week :)
been waiting for a few pieces, new front brake lines arrived today
as did things like bleed nipples as the ones in the sierra calipers are fubar, some brake bleed hoses, pair of round reflectors for MOT time
also the best bit is a natty petrol solonoid valve, the gtr had vacuum tank as standard, my trikes running a custom tank with normal harley tap.
this tiny device is wired to the ignition, when I turn the key on, the solonoid opens and the petrol can flow, no more worries about the carbs flooding away or draining down into the engine while its parked up if I forget to turn the fuel off, and I never remember as all my bikes have had vacuum taps.
got some resistors to turn down the position marker brightness, limit the current to 5mA !!!! and they just right, they are sodding bright, but will wire them into full beam so they get full power then, DRL are very very bright.
having a few problems with the rear brakes, fluid keeps draining back to the master cylinder, think I need to fit a residual pressure valve, will be a right pain as I will have to scrap the hose and buy 2 new ones :(
devon-tony
27-07-2011, 09:00 PM
I now have working brakes, working clutch and FAT rubber up the arse :)
need larger front wheel now, for looks and also to get the front end up a bit.
wheels need painting black, but couldnt resist bolting them on
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/tony-devon/2011-07-27205132.jpg
Tony, I can't help but notice that exhaust is going to burn your arse off.
devon-tony
28-07-2011, 12:29 PM
my lil arse doesnt hang over the back of the seat that far LOL
its from an underseat system on a cbr, so didnt think it would be much of a problem, I have left plenty of air gap around it, certainly hope it doesnt do any damage?
but either way the trike will be either sold, or if I keep it, then its all getting cut up over Christmas and rebuilt differently LOL
the exhausts will be down low, with a benchseat across the back
devon-tony
06-08-2011, 10:17 AM
wow what a great feeling :)
everything wired up, the bit I enjoy the most, the huge spaghetti junction thats in the headlight, all the other wiring, (Im using original switchgear with everything functioning)
my father popped round to see how I was getting on with it, was rather concerned that I had cable tied everything up, headlamp put back together ( too 20 fookin minutes!!) and all buttoned down, without even connecting the battery LOL
oh ye have little faith, connect the battery, and it all works, like a charm, well pleased
only blip is that I need to remove the front right section of the frame and redo the master cylinder mounting, bastid 5/8 master isnt enough to work the rear calipers, bloody pissed off, but such is life
its pissing with rain here now, but I can see a test ride later, rain snow or sleet, I dont care :)
devon-tony
12-08-2011, 12:01 PM
fed up now, the only thing I paid someone else to do, sealing the tank and painting it, and yup tank leaks and the paints lifting
the carb jetting is a total bitch and got lil pinhole leaks in the exhaust etc
couple that with a dragging clutch, and I just cant be bothered anymore
will be on ebay and gumtree etc probably this weekend, Q plated and just needs someone with some knowhow
I want something I can just get on and ride, cant be arsed with all this shit anymore
really dont know why I bother building things anymore, I lose money on every fukkin one, and never get to ride them.
time for a stock take of life

12-08-2011, 12:33 PM

Advertised it on a forum for 1600 and someone is very interested. Hopefully that should buy a half decent chop
Sorry to hear that, Tony. :(

12-08-2011, 01:43 PM
ah I just had enough, sometimes you have to face facts, I aint for building bikes and trikes, time to have a proper sort out, the trike, and other gear welding etc, should make enough to buy a bike, I just want something I can ride, maybe fiddle with a little, but just get out on it
I have had that clutch apart 8 times now, my garage floor looks like the BP oil spill LOL, its been cleaned, its been oiled, its been put back together and every time it just drags.
the leaking fuel tank was just the final straw
total waste of time and money, lost count of the number of rows I had with my wife over me going out to the garage instead of being indoors, and what for!!
the guys ringing me back tonight, the funninest thing is, if he can arrange moving it, then it will be probably within 15 miles away from the hardtail chop that I sold, something about manchester people LOL they like my work at least, or they know a bargain
elifan
12-08-2011, 04:24 PM
Just a thought with the clutch, is the hydraulic side of things working okay, mine was a sod to bleed when i changed the slave seals.
devon-tony
12-08-2011, 04:57 PM
yeah its all bled and good, the clutch pressure plate moves out a good 5mm I reckon, but it clunks into gear and you have to use the brake to hold it still
cant shift back into neutral once its in 1st, unless the engine is off, its just dragging??
well, Mr Steven Walker of Oldham is a timewaster, agreed that £1600 was a great price, then came back and said its only worth £1200 as his mates quoted him £400 to tune the carbs. wanker
to top it all I got my finger stuck in the clutch basket, good and proper stuck, was trapped for 20 minutes got cramp in my legs and was ready to just scream, had to push with a screwdriver, and pull eventually I got it out, but looks like Im going to lose the nail.
some things are sent to try us
Im seriously eyeing up the insurance policy and wondering if its worth more as a burnt pile of scrap LOL

I know how you feel dude, my project was a real bitch, building her and planning a wedding at the same time probably wasnt the best of ideas.
As the last guy suggested when she was throwing a tant just whack a sheet over her and chillax, thats when the solutions unfold and ideas spring and come a few weeks you'll have a clear head and set ideals
Don't give up mate she looks lovely and least she doesnt have L plates on =)
devon-tony
23-08-2011, 07:45 PM
had a major tidy up and clear out of the garage, that made me feel better, I can see the floor again now!! LOL
my dads been in ICU for a week now and its really brought home a few truths and priorities, sometimes things just arent worth getting stressed about
done a few lil jobs on the trike of an evening once I get home from Plymouth, just some calming down time after the drive home
made all new mounts and fitted new rear brake master, looks great and works even better, new discs and pads up the back have finished the job off a treat.
went through and tidied a few loose ends, and its pretty much as far as I can go for now
had some luck with one of the MOT stations, about 10 mile away but hes said hes prepared to look at it, the other one wont do it as its bike based??
so with some luck and a following wind I might make it to the MOT Friday afternoon, it starts on the button, idles well, revs up clean while sat still, seems to go ok up to about 20mph round the local road, but cant try it any further than that, apart from on way to MOT.
standard mains are 125, I have gone to 150 mains, lifted the needles 0.7mm and backed the pilot screws out an extra 1/2 turn to 3 turns out, seems about as close as I think I can get without proper riding and testing
if it rides ok and passes the MOT, then god help the village as its bank holiday weekend and Im going to wake every fukker up LOL

Im wetter than a ducks ballbag, but grinning like a dog thats just found another set of balls, AND he can lick them ones as well :)
Trike has an MOT flew through, advisory for numberplate, the tester is a total star.
handles amazing, cant beleive something that was built in a garage actually works LOL
if anything its too responsive, need to look at how to maybe make it a bit more lazy on the steering, think I need to stiffen the rear shocks, but right now Im trying to dry out and waiting to get feeling back in my face and hands
them big ol tyres dont arf aquaplane when you hit huge puddles, think I might have pissed meself in fear, but not sure LOL
goign to have to give in and fit a front muddy :(

well this has to be some sort of personal record, I still have the trike LOL its officially the longest I have ever kept something, ok so I confess I did try selling it, but Ebay was a waste of time and money, the best genuine bid and offer I got was about half what I reckon its worth, and still short of what I was prepared to accept at the time
for once Im almost happy with something I have built, engine is strong and pulls lke a train, running rich as hell (but runs perfectly??), but prefer it that way to be safe, will downjet and play with the carbs next summer
before the MAG demo run I knocked up a quick mudguard for the front, its a piece of crap but thats what happens when you weld outside at 3am without any gas, in the rain LOL, then the sun shone and I took it off, but its there for emergencies
much as I hate to do it, I think Im going to fit rear muddies, seen a couple of trikes with them fitted over fat rubber, and quite like the look.
couple of jobs to do over winter if its still here LOL, but nothing major, just a tart up and if I can afford it, powdercoat and polish things. I fitted a light mettalic blue water overflow bottle, and love the colour, so thinking of a colour change with some flames over the top?? want to modify the propshaft, it works fine but want to make one a bit better looking :)
if it goes back to black again, then I will get the rear wheels powdercoated to match, but I have a nice white VTR1000 rear wheel that I fancy fitting in the front end to fatten things up a bit, this I think will work nice with the blue paint that I like, so have to see what I feel like on the day.
so far 1500 miles of grins and hopefully more to come, theres nothing to wake you up more than travelling at stoopid speeds with just sunglasses and a bit of hair on your head, but I have to stress that wasps in the cheek at 80mph flippin hurt!!
I find myself looking round the house and popping out for a pint of milk at every opportunity, taking the long route so the engines fully warmed up of course!! so what if its raining, skins waterproof :)
many thanks to those that have made positive comments about it, and those that offered encouragement, I have little self confidence, and in fact the MAG demo ride was the first time I have taken any of my custom builds out to a meet etc (last 3 bikes and the trike I built all sold for a pittance within a week of building them), the reaction and comments I got were really great, perhaps its time to stop critisising myself and just build things :)
these pics are sort of where its at now, the ends of the frame tubes that you can see, now have nice turned billet alloy plugs in them, and theres a blue expansion bottle/catch tank down by the right footrest.
paint on the tank has bubbled a bit round the filler cap, think I need to get some proper help with regards to paint and lacquer for the next time as I dont know why its lifted??

Mate that there is one fookin luvlerly looking trike. I built an 850 flatracker and did exactly the same as you sold it for pittance almost straight away, anyhow I used petrol resistant laquer from Halfrauds on the tank and soon as petrol touched it it lifted. Could be your problem with your tank.

I ended up buying a 2 pack laquer in a can from local paint supply specialist, cost 3 times as much as halfrauds one but I guess you only have to do it once so probably cheaper in longer term. :thumbu:
