carb cleaning

just started up the z only runs on three untill it hits higher revs then all four kick in i reckon its shit in the carb its been stood since last winter. Whats the best cleaner and any idea where the shit might be hidding ive had a quick look bowls jets etc but cant find anything.Thanks

pilot jets blocked,i usually spray carb cleaner while its running sorts it on my old zed,if really stubborn blow it out with compressed air,but be carefull coz bits sometime fly off:D:D.worst case senario have them sonically cleaned ;)

take em off...take em to bits...clean em out...dont be scared of em.

I concur with Moz. Do them one at a time and take your time cleaning them and Bob's your mothers brother.

I agree with Moz and Grav.

Squirting carb cleaner is ok for a quick repair, but it washes the dirt / grit into the float chamber.

Then it will cause problems in the future.

Where it is a great tool is for diagnosis. It'll even tell you which carb is at fault.................. but I'd still clean all of 'em.

It's certainly possible to do it Robbo's way, but not as therapeutic as spending an afternoon giving them a strip down and thorough clean. :)

This website will show you how to clean CV carbs. Do 1 at a time and keep all the bits seperate.

There is a guy that supplies all the rubber o rings for about £7.

just a quick tip from the lammy/vespa side of the board, for yrs weve bin nickin carbs off bikes t use on scoots,coz the one on its bin stood for 30 or 40 yrs, but now as there becoming more sort after the anoracks insist on the proper carb for that perticular model and year, so you go in yur draw of carbs and pull said carb out lookin like its cum out of the canal, strip it down as much as is possible! make sure the wife/girlfriends out, chuck the body float bowl jets etc in a saucepan of boiling water and boil for as long as you can get away wiv then i blow out wiv a little hobbie spray gun wiv gun cleaner or parrafin, job dun it really does work:thumbsu:

cheers lads carbs now in bits all main jets are clear but one pilot jet solid anyone know who stocks new ones otherwise its the boiling water

cheap aldi/lidl ultrasonic cleaners will do one carb at a time and can be had for under 20 quid!! i got one last year, they do a fantastic job.
