I SMOKE CIGARETTES.
So what so fukin what. But for some reason that gives people the right to publicly berate me. I cant smoke in most restaurants, on trains, planes Dublin or busses. I cant smoke at work or in your work place (probably)If the local council gestapo get their own way I wont be able to smoke in Liverpool at all.
I smoke out of a combination of addiction and enjoyment. I like smoking
My name's RedRobbie and i'm a smoker. There i've said it!
So now i'm a social lepper. I am a tax burden, a health risk to myself and others, smelly and unfit.
Well if its acceptable to have this barrage hurled at me every fukin day of the week then why is it rude of me to say the same thing about fat people. No I dont mean overweight , I am talking about obese telly tubby types. The ones that take up one and a half seats on aeroplanes, busses etc. Fat bastids that contribute nothing but just permanently consume everything.
Nogood , self-inflicted, bone idle, ugly, fat fuckers that sweat profusely and smell. The ones with the big fat dimply legs.
Ok if I offend people by smoking then sorry for that, we need to find our own space. But please keep a realistic and fair approach when ostracising both myself and other smokers and take the same approach to obese people.
Tell them to stop eating, tell them they are a tax liability. Point out that they smell and their presence is offensive in this trendy new world thats been created.
Truth is you wont , cos thats bad manners and will personaly insult and offend the fat f'cker. And well they may be "on the large side" but he\she's got a lovly personality.YOU FECKIN HYPOCRITE.
Thats my rant for the day and i'm off for a smoke now ta ta.

Feel better now
No - Ive just had a ciggy and the more i think about it the worse it gets.
For the price of a big mac meal you can go out and buy some fresh veg and some chicken or fish and enjoy a very tasty and healthy dinner.
Theres slim fast, atkins and god only knows what else to help you lose weight. The government spend a fortune to get people slim and healthy.
So wheres the investment, technology and money that would provide us with a geneticaly modified tobacco plant. Modified to do away with the harmful carcinogens and the addictive elements in nicotine.
Wheres the culture that says "poor smokers heres the fun without the consequenses" I'll tell where ! FUCKIN NOWHERE thats where.

U carry om m8
altho i stopped smoking (am now a fast bastid !!!!) It dont bother me when i sit around with my m8s who smoke.
When I used to smoke the local cinima banned non smokers - they couldnt understand why I walked out in disgust and have never been back. We used to go very regular and always sat in non smoking area, but that was my choice....
Even know i try to avoid places were they have banned smoking - as I believe its an infringemnet of a persons rights.
Wonder how it would go in the european courts - infringment of rights, causeing stress & anxiety, poss time of work due ti the stress, poss even loss of job (unfair dismisal)
If ya wanna smoke carry on as far as I'm concerned

people, meaning non smokers praise the goverment for getting tough with smokers.
those same people winge about increases in fuel both vehicle and heating.
don't the idiots realise that for every person who stops smoking, the goverment receives less in revenue from tobacco.
do they really think the goverment is happy to lose that revenue.
no they are not but it looks good to the public.
the goverment want that money back which they do by adding a bit here and a bit there onto other things.
health costs eh? blair takes us to war with a country we don't really have a arguement with, a people of whom many think its a good thing to die for they god.
now personally i think that could be classed as a health risk, to us all.
i agree with what red says to apoint. everyone of us can think of something we would like to see banned,
it did come over as a little offensive though.
some smokers "will" die of smoking related illness', some obese people "will" die from a result of their weight.
but not all.

All my life,I've had people calling me a fat b*stard.I was bullied at school for 12 years for it.I still get comments,so I think I've got a right to get pissed off. What if I called everyone from your neck of the woods a dirty fecker because I'd met one person who was?
Second,Biker Gran.
I don't believe it's ok to offend smokers. As I said in my post,I did point out that I still miss smoking and I believe these bans are draconian. The point I'm making is you can't just write off a section of the community because one or two have pissed on your chips.

I have never been a smoker, but hey my choice, and if people do so what its their choice
i like motorbikes and some dont
I like a drink, and occassionally this may be a bit high, hence im no lightweight, but then i dont grumble at tea total vegan bean poles
my girlfriend is so anti smoking it takes away the pleasure of going out anywhere sometimes
the whole thing is tolerance, and i can see why RR got so upset.. its choices and thats all..if thats what people enjoy fine, cinemas (when you could) /resteraunts are ok with one side non, one side is.. you then have a choice i must say airplanes are more pleasant all non smoking ( my ex smoked so we were always with them) but you should have better facilities in airports

Ok Doug I understand why you are aggrieved but I think you have missed the point of the original post.
Unfortunatly we live in a time when image is generaly held in higher regard than substance. And todays popular image is the clean cut motivated professional type who is so self absorbed they believe that they can hector the smoking community whith impunity. This culture is now so ingrained within oursociety that a total stranger can and often does impose their will and critique on a groupe society considers fair game.
The point I was challenging is why this is acceptable towards smokers and unacceptable to obese people as both groupes do not conform to societies superficial values. The post was not a pesonal attack on one group inparticular, but rather an illustration of the hypocracy we have come to tolerate.
The description I gave about both groupes being unfit, lazy and smelly are not views I support or condone however they are recognised stereotype images that we have to suffer. The stereo type image of the biker was also a point you made yourself, and being a scouser who has never stolen anything since school days I am very aware of how untrue common misconceptions actualy are.
Finaly it looks like we are in agreement like you I believe that you cant just write off one section of the community also.

Having been a non-smoker all my life, I don't have a beef with with smokers, as long as they are responsible. Nowday most reataurants have smoking and non-smoking sections, but years ago they didn't. You would go into a cafe and the whole place would be a fug of tabacco smoke. It never bothered me as both my parents and brothers smoked, so I was used to it, but it did make several peeps ill. I have had to walk out of pubs before because the smoke actually burnt my eyes. Nowadays this does not happen so much as peeps cannot afford to smoke so much and in many places it is banned. I am not a smoking Nazi and believe that if this is the way you get your enjoyment, then so be it.
The real problem for modern society is Health and Safety or Insurance Risk. At work smokers have one smoke room, roumered to be going soon, or you can smoke accross the road inside the factory carpark. This is due to Insurance risk? Since we weld and gfrind all day and the welding fumes are more dangerous than tabacco smoke, I can't see the point...
In pubs and clubs etc the bar staff are in contact with second hand smoke and may be non-smokers, which leaves the owner open to being fined, or sued by a member of staff due to health problems....
At the end of the day the PC Nazis are out to screw us all. I remember riding round in gas board vans that had stalagtites made from tar hanging from the roof (no roof liners in them days) and I'm still here to say "Feck'em all, if they don't like it" carry on smoking and screw'em
if smoking is really that bad why don't they just make it a class A drug?
Because if it was illegal they couldn't profit from it.They're really quite happy for us to smoke, drink or eat our way into the grave as long as they can profit from us on the way! They just have to look like they care & want the best for us.If everybody woke up tomorrow & said I'm not going to overeat, drink or smoke from now on it would be interesting to see how the government got on up sh1t creek without our vice-tax as a paddle!

I agree with whats been said and segregation is an answer to the passive smoing issue, however the original point is why is it ok to publicly berate smokers in an all to often offensive manner when we dont do this to other groupes. For instance we dont tell obese strangers to stop drinking cola as its bad for them. We dont tell parents to stop swearing infront of their own children as they will perpetuate anti social behaviour. We allow so many things to continue regardles of their effect on the community as a whole, only to pass comment behind closed doors without effect. However smokers are viewed as fair game.
A point raised ealier about air travel being better since smoking was banned on all flights. When passengers smoked on planes the air was changed and filtered every few minutes. this used more fuel and was an expense to the airline. However now that smoking is banned the air is not changed as often and as a result colds and viruses spread more easily on planes now as compared with 10 years ago. So by banning smoking on planes we are exposed to more bugs and viruses and the airline makes money from this .

And have you noticed these "people" once they have completed their education in Universities and "done" their "new-age, tree hugging" stint, end up as either born-again "christians" in some minor religious cult! And/Or become "pillars" of the community, and take over the local parish council, end up on the school board of governors, and impose their lefty-ite views on those around them? And they drive "Green" friendly cars, and are invariably in "Caring" jobs like the Social services! And when they Fcuk up they squeel loudly that it wasn't their fault and blame it on everyone else, and will not take responsibility for their own actions?

i smoke, i also packed up for 6 months last year, but through stress i started again, so what!
why dos'nt the goverment ban smoking and cigarettes completely, simple, they want the tax revenue for the nhs and without it i should imagine we would be paying another 5p in tax on the £1, so there f@ckin hypocrites as well! they complain about the duty in the eu being cheaper... hang on a f@ckin minute, i thought we were in the eu! and a simple solution to stop the bootleggers, drop the duty of fags and baccy to only a £1 a pack, instead of @£3 and it would'nt be worth doing the fag runs to france/belgium, but they won't listen to the likes of me and you, why that you ask, it's because we are only the public and are treated as thick as s@it, ther you go mr.blair, you can go and shove your head up cherie's arse!
now thats of my chest, i'm of for a benson!!!!
further to my earlier rhetorical question
heroin vs cigarette smoking
apart from one being illegal, what are the differences?
I'll start the ball rolling..........
people have been known to get lung cancer from passive smoking (they say)
cigarettes are cheaper
both are addictive
both are bad for you
um, any more?
why is heroin illegal but smoking isn't?
they could whupp a massive tax on heroin after all
so it can't be just the revenue
am I missing something here about heroin?
and another thing
they recently banned a very useful prescription onlyy painkiller cos of 400 accidental deaths a year
now
how many peeps do they reckon die a year from smoking?
hypocrites they are methinks
no surprise there then

also cannabis, coke, speed and all the other narcotics that make you go weeeee, if properly thought out they could be minting it in, they could set up their own plantations, which would be strictly controlled and sold through the chemists on licence, anyone then caught 'making their own' could then be punished to whatever sentence seams right!

Firstly the taxation question. Although they want everybody to stop smoking (and now they are targetting us fatties as well) they don't want everybody to quit overnight. Yes, the tax from ciggies funds the NHS indirectly and to stop that would be disasterous. What they want is a decline, year by year, in new smokers and experienced smokers. By reducing new smokers they are preventing the lung/heart/thrombosis problems bought on by smoking and by persuading seasoned smokers to quit, they reduce the risk for that group also. As peeps stop smoking (In their ideal world) then the taxes from tabacco will be less urgently needed as less smoking related illness will be evident. That's the theory, which has nothing to do with my views, just playing devils advocate.
Secondly the question of berating smokers, as opposed to other groups. The whole answer is 'Passive Smoking'. This lovely piece of propoganda, whether true or not is what gives the PC nazis there 'God Given' right to slag you off for smoking, as you are seen to be damaging their health, wheras fat peeps are just damaging their own. That is unless they fall on you.
I well remember when bikers were yelled at in the streets and banned from certain public places.
There is an old saying which goes " The more things change, the more they stay the same"

I am very pst off that now i seem to be a public outcast and even my job is in jepardy,, i sing in pubs and clubs and i am quite sure if it gets banned there i wont be able to work.
I am overwhelmed at the amount of ppl here who dont smoke but are happy to stick up for the rights of those who do,,,, unlike the rest of britain who seem to be determined to follow anything as long as it aint singling out them personally..
What next?,,,,lets ban butter ... personally it all makes me sick,, but i bet it wont b long b4 smoking is banned everywhere bar ya own home...then what?,,,will kids b able to sue their parents for living in a smokers home?
its the same as when the government tried to score brownie points by saying they were saving the environment when they raised the price of petrol rediculously,,,,but strangely enough we put up with that too,,,

Fekkin' finance consultants! Oh yeah! tried to sell me bloody redundancy insurance until I pointed out that we already had it, and that had I had life cover, and accident, and sickness! and that it covered double the amount that we wanted to borrow. Which she should've have noticed had she read the policies properly! So much for "Independant Advice"
Took three fekkin' hours as everything had to be done "Online"!
Dam, get ready for a huge rise in the site rates peeps

I, too, used to smoke but no longer do. A heart attack tends to make you re-evaluate your priorities :( ! However, I have no desire to preach at others who smoke, it's their choice. I also (by personal choice) do not drink alcohol, and have no wish to berate those who do, but I find irritating, aggresive, uncontrolable drunks far more offensive than someone who lights a fag in my vicinity. (I still enjoy a therapeutic smoke regularly, I just don't mix it with tobacco :D )
On the subject of tax an American came up with a novel concept about 15/20 years ago. He proposed that, as America was spending billions of dollars a year fighting drugs and clearly not winning, that everything should be legalised but taxed according to how much harm it caused. Under his system the cheapest thing to buy would have been cannabis, with tobacco and alcohol well up there with all the hard drugs. Needless to say nobody in power was willing to go for his proposal.
