well hi to all before i start .
now i bought a cat b trike that came up,i was told required a new frame.
now ive been through the bike with a fine tooth comb and im confused,as not a problem with the bike ,other than a scratched mudgaurd.
so well i appllied for old v5 dont know if i will get it but tried.
now i feel it will walk an mot ,so im to, wondering if i will be as well, prior to hearing back from dvla or not.
the test station has said i need a weight certificate is that needed if classed as a trike allready, also with it being a virago trike does it come under class 2 or 3.
lots of areas of interest, the old mot states class 2 ,i keep reading on the net class 3 so im confused in a way lol ,as it will be 1 day my first trike .any help very much appreiciated :thumbu:

Sounds like it was simmilar to your situation, not much real damage. When I applied for a V5 I got "invited" to the local police vehicle fraud unit, for it to be checked over. They were realy only interested in whether it was made from stolen parts. Proper arse twitching time, as I'd paid a few grand for it.
As there was nothing dodgy about it I got the original V5, but I don't want to have to do that again!
As for MOT class, that will depend on the weight of it. My Wildstar trike was under the £450kg limit (just)!

many thanks for the reply mick ,yes well think i will await to see what happens regards a v5,or check then prior to mot,i am quite happy its not any stolen parts on it ,i have old mots ect from back when was a bike, and all seems to add up regards numbers,so hopefully i dont need to go through a rebuild.i see it a shame to do really as its definetly an insurance error in my mind.an to be honest dont understand what these insurance people are paid for.would you have any ideas,as regards where to have weighed as no local weighbridges ,is it possible to go to aggregates and such like or even scrap dealers say for a weight thanks very much simon really appreiciate it ;)

Class 2 is a motorcycle, class 3 is a trike or quad under 450KGS. over that will be class 4.

Anyone can correct me if i am wrong..

If the vehicle is correctly registered as a trike the mot station will not need a weight cert as the vehicle will be registered on the DVLA database and the MOT station will connect to this at the time of the MOT.

if it's still registered as a bike.. you will need to go through the process of making it a trike on the V5 and you will need a weight cert.

Good luck anyway and keep us posted !! :)

as a mot tester we do have to have proof of the weight if is under 450 its a class 3 if its over its a class 4 but this will not effect the mot test its just a formality for us testers.so we don't test out of class and get points on our testing licence.it don't matter if it says trike on the v5 we test to the vehicle in front of us. my trike was 860kg but it had 3 wheels so it was still a tike mot and trike tax etc
its up to the presenter to prove the weight this can be fom a scrapyard or who ever as long as it looks legit to the tester.the weight will also help us work out the brake efforts

we always have to produce our weight cert for MOT and we have been going to the same people fpr 15/16 years ( only had to prove weight for the last few years! ) Both of our Trikes were done at the local scrappy and they wrote the weight on to letterheaded paper....bunged them the price of a pint and we were all happy

ok well i can sort a cert out. hit a few well one prob with the trike,it had a good pair buckled wheels i have replaced ,rides ok but definetly a slight lean to left on front end barley visiable, but just cant lay my finger on if forks are bent.ive had them out an well look straight but definatly a light lean.got v5 no problems anyway so its a work in progress :thumbu:
