View Full Version : state of the roads
comeing home today noticed holes in the road where the utility buggers had dug up the road and redone it.
great big chunks torn out lucky enough i was in the car so just felt the bump as my wheel droped in and bounced out.
wouldnt it be better if thay were made to relay a compleat section of road insted of just a line or small hole.
how meny times have you seen the road being layd nice and tidy then a few weeksd later some bugger comes and digs a hole lays a pipe and fils in a small sction and hay presto like sheep telecom turn up and follow the same procedure.
if thay made them do a section then come back if it started to rip up bet thed do a proper job the first time.
how meny of you out ther have had a moment due to this stupidity.
maybe mag should campain on this?

You should try some of the country lanes! They seem to lay great big lengths of pipe for either gas, water, or telecoms. Then you end up with a great big tramline of sunken, badly repaired road! Invariably the front wheel will dip down into one of these trenches, and before you know it you've almost been spat off!

You should try Alfriston Road near us, huge great hill up, sharp bend and great big ridges on the road just round the bend. Everytime I go up that hill I go FFs like I really mean it and have nearly come off many a time.
No amount of complaints from Mag and other bikers will get the local council to sort it out:mad: They will only sort it out when someone cops it!

Have a go at finding the person responsible for the state of yer road. I did, and they all pass the buck. Start with the transport minister and see where it gets you

the trouble is the utility companies are given a bit of a safey net after an excavation, they are allowed to backfill to a 'make safe' standard, the idea is to backfill and leave for a short period to see if there is any sinkage, then come back and reinstate properly by removing just the top and making it a proper fill, the trouble being is that they never get past the 'make safe' and it is all forgotten about :(
my neck of the woods is south wales and we have plenty of back lanes in **** state mostly due to farmers.
i seem to remember a time when we had to keep an eye out for just drain covers but it seems to me that the roads are becomeing worse.
i did try contacting the council about it once but thay keep on saying you have to contact the utility company.
when you ask who it was thay flob you off info not avalable at the moment or we will get back to you.
about time this was sorted out befor some one is killed (probably to late for this)
if the gov hark on about speed and safty thay should sort this out first.
beter quality roads = less accidents .

There answer to that is you should drive at a suitable speed for the road conditions

Well I can't believe it - looks like our MAG hazard cards that we wallpaper the council offices with have worked :D We drove up that nightmare road today and it has been completely resurfaced  No more suicide bike runs for us!!!Hurrah!
