That sinking feeling today ….yesterday was a lovely day chilly but not so bad to make you worry or chill you to the bone. Sun was shining as I rolled out of bed stood at the back door and felt that crisp air……aaaaaah work was a distant thought …a sickie was promptly called in.

Got my gear on and bike was started no problems a short run was the order of the day. One tank full of petrol later I headed for home stopped at the local garage filled the tank for today coming into work.

Then it started, key in button and bang clatter bang burble burble bang..bike started running like a bag of spanners ….at first I had one of those oooh sheeeeit did I put in diesel moments …checked nope unleaded petrol ….thought check leads both seem fine bikes banging about on one cylinder….made it home it is only 3 minutes from the garage, checked leads all ok, checked coil connections all ok …..Didn’t have time to pull tank off or do anything major ….decided leave bike till morning and check it then.

First thing this morning out to garage key in petrol on choke out press button bike goes broom and dies….press button again …whirrrrr whirrrrrr whirrrr nothing, fiddle with leads and open and release petrol cap (bikes a bugger for airlocks)…key in press button whirr whirrrr whirr tried this several times battery dies brrrr brrrrr goes the ****** starter ….ahhhh is bike in gear nooooooo.

I leave for work don’t have time to remove battery …mind does all the usual tricks did I do this or did I do that…nope …sitting here at work and doing nothing my mind is elsewhere….doing the worst possible scenario searching for CDI units and reading all sorts on the web previous horror stories none of which is giving me any peace of mind……will do the usual get home swear at all and sundry disappear into garage get battery on charge strip tank off check fuel filter all leads and keep fingers crossed its something simple……

Probably just moisture getting in the carbs or summat daft like that. I reckon your bike is just telling you off for not giving it enough attention. Bikes are worse than women at times.....:D

I wouldnt argue with that. I often have a loose connector on my CDI unit that needs a wiggle, otherwise I burble and only run on one ! :D

If the bike was running fine before you filled up then this has to be a serious consideration

Have you taken off fuel filters and cleaned with fresh petrol.?...
If it ran better after the CDI fiddle try cleaning conectors and flare out a little to fit more snuggly....if you know what I mean.:)
I see you are in a club. Can anyone come round and swap CDI units to rule this out....or in....
What bike is it ?

I've been having the same issue with the rebel 125 I'm using - not so fast running on one cylinder with that few cubes. seems the plug caps are breaking down - was only in the wet before but had it again today in the dry (bke no starty). Solution- at least until I get round to getting new caps is wd40 sprayed up inside the caps and over the tops of them. Worth a shot.
