not sure if im gonna be well enough to make this yet and would almost certainly have to stick chop in transit - is ther anyone who lives close to the start point ? were i can leave the van and get help to unload & load up ???

its about a 140 mile run to start point from here and would also depend on what time i get to bed after playing on stage with exhibit A on the 13th

Be more than happy to help you unload and then reload. Have asked Rob if he is going?.

It's near Cirencester, they opened a Facebook event announcing camping available and asking you to RSVP to confirm camping. Not sure if there's another way of booking.

Update.

Elizabeth Stevens Update!: Monday 8th February 2010 2030

After the meeting today with the authorities and the unprecedented response from the biking community we have been asked to close registration one week early. It will unfortunately NOT be re-opening.
We would like to reassure everyone that the ride IS GOING AHEAD WITH the FULL support of the police and local authorities. We have spoken to a few local businesses who are all looking forward to the day. ALL bikes will be riding through Wootton Bassett no matter what you may have heard.
Plan details re: routes, times, wristbands, will be made available in document format soon. We have another meeting with the police next week to discuss the finer details.
We can confirm that we will NOT be riding on any stretches of the motorway.

We would like to apologise to anybody who has not registered however wanted to join us, we thank everybody for their patience and support.Thank you for your patience!
Lizzie, Daniel & Julia

Latest on Facebook.

>Elizabeth Stevens. We have had it confirmed that RAF Lyneham cannot cope with the numbers now that have shown their support. They still fully support the ride. We are looking at several bases at present and when things are confirmed I will let you know.<

Might be a silly question so excuse me!
Just come across the run details, although a little too late......story of my life.

I would love to be a part of the run as our guys are doing an excellent job.

My question is, even though I have not made the registration , if I travel early in on the morning can I still join the run, ie I do not need stay over-night etc.

Regards

Registration was only necessary to gain access to the RAF base which it looks like they are not going into now anyway.

No reason you can't just turn up.

Hi,
If you look in the Afghan heroes blog, under the latest FAQ's, ( Feb 11th 2010 )they are asking anyone who has NOT registered, and had their registration confirmed, NOT to just turn up, STAY AWAY. You will not be let into wherever base they decide they will use either, unless pre-registered.

See http://blog.afghanheroes.org.uk/2010/02/11/wootton-bassett-ride-faq/

One section;

I was too late to register, can I still come?
Obviously we cannot prevent people from using the public highways, but the organisers would like to ask those who have not registered to please stay away. If thousands of additional bikes turn up on the day there is a distinct possibility that the event may be badly disrupted or worse, shut down. The purpose of the event is to show support to the people of Wootton Bassett and to raise funds to support our troops and their families. The best way for this to happen is for the event to run as smoothly as possible. we are very sorry if you did not manage to register and we thank you for your continued support, but please do not just turn up. There are other ways to support us, such as donations, buying a wristband or helping to set up/run an event in your local area etc.

Looks like the charity has ousted two of the original organizers. Anyway, it's on here. (http://blog.afghanheroes.org.uk/2010/02/16/wbofficial-announcement/)

An announcement… and at last it’s great news!

All the agencies (Police, MOD & Local Authorities) have come together to make the Mother’s day ride through Wootton Bassett possible.

The ride will now start within the Hullavington Airfield nr Buckley army barracks (A429) and all of the 10331 registered riders will pass through Wootton Bassett before dispersing. All registered riders will soon receive (by email) full instructions/documentation of the route, arrival / leaving times, a proof of registration and the method by which we are going to get this many riders through a small Wiltshire village safely and without causing total gridlock.

We absolutely understand how difficult it must be for those that missed registration however must ask non-registered riders NOT TO ATTEND; As this poses a major threat to fellow bikers who would be at very high risk if left stationary on the M4 motorway as a result of any of the local junctions becoming blocked.

We must stress that ONLY REGISTERED RIDERS will be able to go on the organised ride.

We would like to thank The Unity Ride team for their assistance in the negotiations, planning and kind offer to marshal.

Thank you everybody who has offered their help for this event. If you still would like to contribute your time or services then please use the contact form on the Official Afghan Heroes web site and tell us what you can provide.

From Afghan Heroes website.

We have received info from the ride Marshals regarding the agreed route. Please see below:

The Mothers day ride to Wootton Bassett will start on the runway of Hullavington Airfield nr Buckley barracks (A429) undertaking the following route: A429 (NW to Burton Hill), B4042 (Priory Roundabout to Callows Cross), Callow Hill to White Hill Lane then A3102 through to Wootton Bassett. The ride will then go to Coped Hall (A3102) roundabout for dispersal. There will be dispersal routes clearly signed for those travelling to the North, South, East and West.

To minimise local disruption and tail backs on to the M4, riders will be requested to stagger their arrival times. An interactive web site has been setup that will enable riders to not only input their ETA but also choose an off- peak time for their arrival. This will go online soon. We aim to limit our maximal arrival rate to 2000 per hour starting at 8.00am which should prevent tailbacks and stationary vehicles on the M4. We will provide alternative routes, if you require them, for those arriving from the east (via J15) and those coming from the West (J17) to decrease the ‘load’ on J17. The ride will run continuously from 11.00am until all registered riders have passed through Wootton Bassett.

A slow release rate from Hullavington Airbase should mean that riders will clear the dispersal point without grid locking Wootton Bassett. All registered riders will soon receive, by email, a rider’s information pack containing all the relevant information.
