In any instance is it possible for old brake fluid to cause binding....i have fitted new pads for the MOT but it failed because of said binding ya see.

I don't mind strippin the buggers down but i'm in a hurry thats all.

More than likely the pistons need stripping and freeing, that will be why the pads needed replacing in the first place.

Doesnt take that long, honest, in my case it took fuc*ing ages to bleed the system afterwards, it still isnt brilliant even now

Are these opposed or single piston calipers?

Single piston jobbies, it's usually the slides that are binding.

Opposed piston, usually the pistons need cleaning.

Either way if you're worried about it, change the fluid. It's like bleeding, only easier as there shouldn't be any air in there in the first place!!!!!! just keep pumping away until you get clean new fluid coming out (good advice in many a circumstance. (probably))

highly unlikey situation - but - if the brake fluid is very old, and has water in it - and you went for a ride, the water will get hot / boil and expand pushing the brakes on.

too much fluid can cause this as well...

but more likely to be stuck pistons / sliders etc - out with the toothbrush / wire brush / copaslip for you matey ;)

Done the fluid and bound the handle shut over night..
it does'nt seem to be making that grindin noise that bound up brakes make but then that could be wishful thinkin

gonna order a new set of seals in a mo.

thanks for that folks.

As well as pattern brake levers (which was why Clive went tarmac surfing)

And so can dickheads who replace 80's Kawasaki sintered pads with used organic ones and LEAVE THE FRIGGING HEAT INSULATORS OUT (which was why I went tarmac surfing).

OK in my case I replaced the organic pads with the proper new ones in a hurry and nver noticed the insulators weren't there. but they'd been there before it got stolen...

I'll only need a caliper set tho.

i can do them :D

if the seals had holes in them. when you fitted new pads you would have pushed those contaminated cachi (welsh for crap) pistons into your oh so feminine piston seals.
bad boy, go and wash your mouth out, pausing only to take the carbolic soap with you :D

oh yeah - been there - done that - got the t shirt...

(brake lever slightly bigger than original - presses brake on very slightly, causes binding. easily fixed with 30 seconds with a file - make sure there is a tiny bit of loose play before the nobble thingy hits the plunger on the master cylinder)
