In my capacity as MAG road safety office I got an irate email today saying NCP had started charging for bikes in Reading.

Went and checked the council car park which they outsourced to NCP and there it was in big letters "Motorcycles must pay full tariff", so I rang the NCP customer service hotline and they told me that it wasn't on their records but if it says it then enforeable and in addition despite having to pay you still can't use a car space only the scummy bit in the corner upon pain of a ticket.

So I rang the council to winge (especially as i am in the middle of discussing all the bike parking with them). They went dolally as NCP have not approached them at all or asked for a variation in traffic order so in fact any charges are non-enforceable. They are asking for the signs to be removed immediately

DO NOT BLINDLY BELIEVE NCP SIGNAGE

Nice one Wurzel, too many of these robbing bastards are putting up signs saying bikes must pay full wack and yet are not allowed to take up a parking space.

Makes my £20 (£25) subs each year worthwhile.

Well done Wurzel, a small yet significant victory.

Take heed of this, folks. Wurzel has accomplished something for everyone's benefit and all it took was a couple of phone calls. If NCP have done the same thing in your town, you know what to do. You can probably bet your house on the fact that they are trying this on everywhere.

Thank you Wurzel.:)

I posted on this site some time back regarding the"antis" posting here who have nothing good to say about MAG and others, but complain about all and sundry that they personally disagree with.
Well, to all you lot that winge and moan , now put your hand in your pocket and get out your money and support MAG. There are many who put in a lot of work on our behalf for little or no reward.

THANKS TO ALL CONNECTED TO OR WITH MAG.

Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it you whingers ( yes, if the cap fits then wear it )

Yes, I can take the stick on valid discussion

I have belonged to MAG for ages and fully believe in what they are doing. Without them we would already be screwed and if we do not show some solidarity then we may still go down. If you don't like MAG there is the BMF and probably some other lobbyists for motorcycling that may do. United we stand, divided we fall.........

the NCP car park at the Hospital where I work has signs up regarding the tariff, and if you believe the signs you have to pay for bikes. But most of the people (bike riders) who work there know they don't have to pay (with prompting from me and a few others). I've seen these signs in a lot of car parks but usually a quiet word with the 'bloke on the gate' gets you in & out without paying.

Was considering last night going down with some tape/paint and very obviously defacing the sign in front of staff hoping they would threaten calling old bill. Then I could suggest that they do so that I could report them for attempted fraud or "obtaining a pecuniary advantage through deception", just to see the reaction.

But I'd end up in the paper and can see it going down badly with the company owner whom I have to keep sweet at present

Update.

It appears these are not new notices just newly coated in anti graffiti varnish so they look new. Apparently what they actually mean is you have to pay if you park in a car space - the council are going to require a change in the wording to say "Motorcycles must pay full tariff - unless in designated bay" and instruct NCP to ensure their customer service centre has that info on the database for if anyone calls them.

More a case of left hand/right hand and council poor sign writing than deliberate targeting of bikes.

Anyway all sorted now
